Dalguise 2015 Dunblane Primary School

On the 16th of September, the Primary 7 children from Dunblane Primary, Newton Primary and St Mary’s Primary went on a residential visit to Dalguise. We were all very excited as we had been waiting for this opportunity for seven years. Let us tell you all about it.

We came to school with our suitcases. While we waited for the bus, we got into our dorm groups and made posters for our doors. Then finally the bus came and we split into the two different buses. When we walked to the buses, all our mums and dads were there to wave us off. Then we were off!

It was about an hour’s drive. Every time we saw a sign we would get excited just in case it said Dalguise. Finally we saw the sign and we all cheered. We went up a little hill and we were there! When we got off the bus, we had to walk up a huge hill to get to our dorms. We had time to put our suitcases away and then it was straight into activities.

We all got into activity groups and got into action. First we did Tree Climb, up a 75ft tree with a ladder up the side. It was quite scary for people who were scared of heights. Next we did the Giant Swing. This involved putting a harness on and being clipped on to a metal bar. Then the rest of your group would pull you up using a rope. When you were ready to go, you would pull a rope, which would release you. It was so much fun!

After that, we went back to our dorms and had a little bit of time in our dorms before dinner. After that, we did our evening activity which was real-life Cluedo. It was fun too.

The next day, after breakfast, we got into our activity groups and headed off. First, we did the Sensory Trail where you were blindfolded and had to complete an obstacle course. We had to climb through tunnels, over trees, go under nets and walk through tyres. Then we went abseiling which was really scary at first but then after a while it was fun. Next, we did the zipwire. We were clipped onto a rope then went on a platform and jumped off. After lunch we did more activities including archery.

Dalguise was a great experience and we got to meet loads of new people, conquer our fears and learn about teamwork. Overall it was the best experience of our lives.
