St Mary’s EPS
Our Dalguise Experience
Recently p7 went on a trip to Dalguise we all really enjoyed it, here are some of our highlights.
As soon as we arrived we were buzzing with excitement and gazed out onto the fields of Dalguise intrigued by activities which we had never conquered before. After we had got off the bus and collected our bags we went up the hill to explore our new rooms which we would be sleeping in for the next two nights. It was a very exciting and adventurous experience for all of us which we would remember and would help us in the future.
We then unpacked our bags and got started on some of the exciting activities. Through the week we did the zip wire, abseiling, archery, survivor, sensory trail, tree climb, vertical climb and the giant swing. There were also fun activities every night. On the last night after all our activities we had an epic disco where we all sang and had a great time dancing along.
We will remember this experience. It will help us in high school because we also learned a lot of new things about ourselves along the way and we will use those skills to help us in the future. We also met and made a lot of new friends from Dunblane and Newton Primary.

Dunblane local, Mrs Gray was nine when WW2 was declared. On Monday 5th October she came into St Mary’s EPS to talk to P7 about her experiences.
World War 2 was declared at 11 o’clock on Sunday 3rd September 1939. Mrs Gray told us that evacuees were taken from Glasgow and placed all over Scotland’s top places like Stirling and Perth. The evacuees’ suitcases were about the size of a shoebox and they were allowed to bring one special toy with them. Mrs Gray said that she was lucky because she was evacuated to the north of Scotland to stay with her gran.
Mrs Gray also told us a story about when they heard a bomb whistling as it fell and no one heard it explode. Nobody knew where the bomb had landed and it turned out it had landed in Mrs Gray’s school! Luckily it did not go off and was found by the cleaners the next morning.
We all really enjoyed this visit and learned a lot from it. Heidi Eik-Maxwell P7
