Positive Action in Housing

We are a small Scottish charity based in Glasgow. For the past twenty years we are here to help refugees, asylum seekers and migrants. A safe home is important and we help with accommodation and have an asylum host scheme, but we do much more than housing. Our positive approach takes in lobbying and speaking out for the injustice and exploitation of people fl eeing persecution and war. We have an emergency hardship scheme providing food and clothes for people who are destitute.

We have a small, dedicated staff and a group of volunteers who are ready to help adults and children in great need. Many refugees and asylum seekers get little if any state help and are not allowed to work so they need our support and friendship whilst they fi nd their way in Scotland.

In view of this we are holding a Coff ee Morning in the Cathedral Halls on Saturday 28th November from 10am -12 noon and warmly invite you to come and support us.

Active Stirling has been working in the Dunblane school cluster to encourage girls from primary 5 and 6 to come along and try football as part of a number of taster sessions being organised and taking place in Dunblane High School. At the end of these sessions, it is hoped to play a mini tournament enabling the local schools to play against each other for fun in a mini competition. This is taking place on Thursday 29 October from 4pm at the high school. Riverside girls representatives will be there to support the event and provide a route into a local club for those who want to carry on playing.

The club has been growing since April 2014,and we have teams active across all age groups (under 9’s, under 11’s, under13’s and under 15’s. We train on a Wednesday at Forthbank from 7-8pm,and on a Sunday at Hawes Park, Bridge of Allan from 11am. Times and venues may vary so, contact beverley_francis@btinternet.com if you are interested in giving it a try. Girls of all abilities including those new to football are very welcome.
