Rainbow Stage’s hilarious production of The Producers from the summer of 2014.

RAINBOW STAGE SUMMER 2015 SCHEDULE

West Side Story June 4 to June 19

Les Misérables July 9 to July 24 Sister Act

Aug. 13 to Sept. 1 Jets vs. Sharks

Te season kicks off with West Side Story’s tale of two star-crossed lovers, Maria and Tony, doomed because of their families’ associations with opposing New York City gangs. Te legendary musical adaptation of Romeo and Ju- liet has rival gangs, the Jets and Sharks, replacing the Mon- tague and Capulet families with similar tragic consequences. Leader of the West Side Story’s Sharks, Bernardo, will be played by well-known Winnipeg performer Peter Huck, who is reprising his role from his 2002 performance in Rainbow Stage’s West Side Story production. Huck spent last season as the choreographer-in-residence at the theatre, lending his expertise to all three 60th anniversary produc- tions. His fancy footwork will be accompanied by members of the Winnipeg Symphony Orchestra this year, in a special collaboration.

Tere’s no place like home Les Misérables will see Colleen Furlan return to the

home stage. She is a local who made headlines ranking in the top four during CBC’s Over the Rainbow, a cross- country search for the right talent to play Dorothy in Te Wizard of Oz. Tough she didn’t nab the spot during her pursuit on the reality show, she was chosen to play Ariel in Rainbow Stage’s Te Little Mermaid. She is also familiar

with her role in Les Misérables – she played the male lead in her high school production at Balmoral Hall. Rainbow Stage audiences will see her as Cosette. Hail Mary

Te hilarious story made famous in 1992, in the film star-

ring Whoopi Goldberg, will bless audiences with some co- medic relief in the fall. Rainbow Stage newcomer Saccha Dennis will play the sassy stage siren lead, and Colleen Fur- lan will tackle the timid Sister Mary Robert. Longtime Rainbow Stage performer, Donna Fletcher,

will appear as the intimidating and authoritative Mother Superior. Te fun, secular spins on godly music – and the fast-paced

action triggered by embedding a wanted woman in a con- vent – will all be translated to the stage. Tickets are reasonably priced for all productions – be-

tween $30 and $65 based on seating – and most shows are family-friendly (though this year, you may want to leave the kiddies at home for Les Misérables). In its 60th anniversary season, Rainbow Stage also de-

buted the new Diamond Lounge feature for guests. For just $10 a ticket, patrons can enjoy an intermission beverage and snacks in a cozy, open-air space overlooking the river. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit rainbowstage.ca.
