Players enter drama festival

AN AMATEUR dramatic society has been formed in Snodland to cover the town and villages in the Medway Valley. The Snodland and Valley Com- munity Players (SaVCoPs) are al- ready rehearsing their first production, a one-act play with a cast of four (pictured), to be per- formed at the Medway Little The- atre's Duncan Rand One Act Play Festival in Rochester. Neil Vinall of Queens Road, Snodland and his partner Freddie Dhombres are members of the Chandeliers, Bearsted. He said they went to the opening of the ex- tension of Snodland Community Centre and discussed starting a group with Anne Moloney, former chairman of the town council. A Facebook page attracted 70 followers and a meeting was held, where it was decided to take part in the Medway theatre festival. Neil has written the play "The

Waiting Room". The festival takes place between July 13 and 17, with the final on July 18. To raise awareness of SaVCoPs, the group is hosting a quiz night

Maureen Harwood, chairman of the National Association ofWomen's Clubs, said: “We are a national, non-political, non-sectarian, non-reli- gious organisation for all women, creating opportunities to build new skills by taking part in a variety of activities in an atmosphere of friend- ship and fun and campaigning on issues that matter to members and their communities." There are about 5,000 members in 130 clubs and the organisation

is celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, but is quite new to this part of Kent. A club at Larkfield opened almost two years ago. Maureen said: “Our members enjoy demonstrations, talks and vis-
