Trust case may leave county
THE trial of a hospital trust and two doctors over the death of young West Malling mother Frances Cappuccini (right) after she gave birth could bemoved out of the county. Maidstone and TunbridgeWells
NHS Trust is charged with corpo- rate manslaughter and anaes- thetists Errol Cornish (67) and Nadeem Azeez (52) are accused of manslaughter relating to her death in 2012.. Only Cornish appears on the in- dictment at present as Azeez is be- lieved to have returned toPakistan. The case – the first of its kind –
will be tried by a High Court judge. John Cooper,QCfor the trust, indi- cated at Maidstone Crown Court that he would apply for it to be transferred out of Kent – possibly to the High Court in London. “It is the first prosecution of a
trust for an offence of corporate manslaughter,” he said. “It is clear there will be important legal issues. “It is more appropriate to be dealt with out of the immediate area.
Players seek canine star
THE legendary Noel Coward might have said “Don’t put your daughter on the stage Mrs Wor- thington” but he didn’t say any- thing about the dog! Now Maidstone’s travelling the-
atre company is looking to take a leaf out of the playwright’s book as it puts on his play “Hay Fever” as part of their summer season. The Changeling Theatre, headed
by director Rob Forknall, will per- form the play in 15 venues between July 3 and August 16, but it is the accompanying production of Shakespeare’s “The Two Gentle- men of Verona” which needs some canine intervention. Rob, from Sutton Valence, will shortly be auditioning four-legged friends for the part of Crabb. The original canine character is
believed to have been a lurcher but Rob is prepared to look at any type of breed which might fit the bill. The dog will need to work closely with the actors, be well- trained and not afraid of appearing on stage. Also, the owner would need to go on tour with the pro- duction.
