£150k needed for club’s pitch
MAIDSTONEHockey Club need to find £150,000 to replace the As- troTurf at their Armstrong Road club within the next two seasons. The news was broken to more
than a hundred members of the club at a black tie hog roast dinner, prior to the presentation of the awards for the top players of the past season. The chairman of the club, Matt
Evans, said: “This is a substantial amount of money that needs to be found.” He urged all members to con-
sider setting up a direct debit to help the club and reflected on how the clubhouse had been built with the help of a members’ loan scheme. He said: “When the clubhouse
was built some of the finance came from a members’ loan scheme – club members could set up a direct debit to assist the club. Any amount above their existing stand- ing order could be put in. “I would encourage everyone to
look at this scheme as a means to help the club finance larger items.” In the past season, the club have-
Maidstone Hockey Club members at their awards evening
made catering changes to make them more cost effective and Mr Evans thanked Graham Collie who had given his time and advice for free, and Vianne Gibbons and Imogen Thompson who had im- plemented the changes. He urged all members to give feedback about this by using the club’s social media pages on Face- book, and on Twitter. During the year, the club have
raised funds for the Lymphoma Association and Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research, with a quiz, raffle and sponsored bike ride.
