Town Talk
OWNERS of the five latest businesses in Snodland to receive their awards for supporting the Snod- land Goes Cleaner Voluntary Litter Code are pic- tured. They are Jamie Morris (Studio 10), Dan Logan
(Paydens Pharmacy), Charlie Austin, Julie Willis and Anne Willis (Creases Ironed Away), Chris Beaney (Beaney's Medway Bakery) and Steve Still (Petaholics). Members of the town council, Tonbridge & Malling Council's economic regeneration officer Jeremy Whittaker and town council chief execu- tive Karen Sowten are also pictured. Ten other businesses were not represented and received their awards individually. Alan Keeley, Chairman of Snodland Goes Cleaner Partnership, said: "We'd like to say a big thank you to these businesses for all the work they are doing to encourage people to dispose of their litter correctly.
Local news for Snodland and Halling Businesses clean up in town Sandra and WI save poppies "We are very proud of Snodland and all that it
has to offer residents and visitors. The work these businesses are doing is making a real difference to the community." Forty-eight businesses have signed up to the
Code which includes keeping the front of their premises clear of litter, asking them if they need a bag and reminding customers to use a bin or take their litter home.
Co-op plans for former pub
THE Co-operative Group, which took out a 20-year lease on the former Bull public house at Hol- borough Road, last September has applied for planning permis- sion to extend the building. Tonbridge & Malling Council
has been asked for permission to install an ATM at the front of the shop, new plant and servicing en- closure and the removal of trees. A new access will involve the
demolition of part of the wall at the bus stop in Holborough Road. The proposed single storey ex- tension will add 406sqm to the ex- isting 215 sqmetres. There will be 18 parking spaces for customers. As previously reported in Town
Talk, staff at the Co-op at 46-48 High Street and the post office will transfer to the new site. The store at 11 High Street will not be af- fected.
The extension would be at the rear of the former Bull pub
THE Women's Institute has stepped in to rescue the Poppy Appeal collection in Snodland. Sandra Biddiss (pictured) of Malling Road has agreed to be the organ- iser, after June Miners retired from the posi- tion last year after 17 years. Sandra will order the pop-
pies and wreaths, count and bank the cash and co-ordinate the team, helped by colleagues in Ham Hill & Snodland WI. She said: "We are getting a committee together. How June managed on her own I don't know. She will be giving us ad- vice and selling poppies herself. She has given me a list of street collectors and businesses who give support and I will be going round to see them all." The Cadets and Scouts are
also involved. Sandra has lived in Snodland
for 17 years and was the cater- ing manager at Birling House, the care home in the High Street near the railway station. She still helps there.
