Town Talk Joe helps pal Jamie towards wish


THE campaign to raise £30,000 for Jamie May- nard to help him walk has reached £18,500 in 12 weeks. Town Talk reported in the April issue that three-year-old Jamie of Bingley Close, Snod- land has to use a walker over short distances but otherwise has to be in awheelchair.He suf- fers from spastic diplegia cerebral palsy. He will have a selective dorsal rhizotomy operation at Great Ormond Street Hospital, London but his family must raise £30,000 for his rehabilitation. He will need specialised equipment and intense physiotherapy. Snodland is full of posters about "Jamie's


Wish to Walk", fund-raising activities have taken place and many more are planned. Jamie's friend Joe Scudder, who is also three

are so proud of Joseph. It's just fantastic how everybody really got behind him and Jamie, and dug deep to help such a fantastic cause.

prizes every year since 2008 at the National Optician Awards cer- emonies, but this year was the highest of them all. Comedian Ed Byrne presented the award at the Hilton Hotel, Birmingham. The practice, in Malling Road, was judged against its peers by in-


dustry experts who were particularly impressed with its customer care, superior level of eye examinations and equipment as well as work with dry eyes, glaucoma and personalised varifocals. Alisdair said: "To win Independent Practice of the Year is the ulti-


mate prize and something we have been working toward for a long time.We are thrilled to have won the biggest award in our industry."


SNODLAND Town Council has a new chairman. Peter Misy of Roberts Road, joined the council in 2009 and was previously vice- chairman. Anne Moloney

Tonbridge and Malling Council. At the annual town meeting she thanked members who did not


stand for re-election – Deborah Macey, Vivian Hickmott, David Let- tington and Julian Atkins. She paid tribute to Julianwho had served on the council for many years. At the first meeting of the new council she welcomed Sue Bell, who, together with David Letting- ton, was elected to the borough council, Linda Downs, Katherine Mordecai-Woolf andMark Sawkins. David Purll was elected chairman


of the policy and resources com- mittee, Anne Moloney chairman of planning and environment and Dave Keeley was re-elected chair- man of amenities and recreation.
