This research project wanted to

 Attempt to identify impact measures for CPD on teaching, learning and assessment

 Develop effective systems to record impact of CPD on staff and students, using technology and different media

 Develop strategies for supporting CPD so that impact is greater

 Produce a PD pack about impact of CPD and its enhancement

 Improve CPD effectiveness, staff satisfaction with CPD and ultimately more timely improvement in learning experiences for students.

The project was based at Lowestoft College, a small-to- medium size Further Education (FE) College in the East of England on the Suffolk coast. In 2013 there was a college wide policy for Continuous Professional Development (CPD) that required all full-time lecturers to complete 30 hours of CPD each year, dividing this between 15 hours of ‘Core’ CPD and 15 hours of enhanced CPD (this is then adapted ‘pro-rata’ for part- time staff). With the changes to legislation for teachers in FE, the incorporation of the Institute for Learning into the Education and Training Foundation and new Professional Standards, Lowestoft College has retained this requirement and encourages all staff to complete their required CPD annually.
