ll The closest many chil- dren come to the golf cour- se is a plastic set of clubs as a toddler, but now Playsport Golf in East Kilbride is offe- ring youngsters betwe- en the ages of 8 and 11 the opportunity to become the next Rory McIlroy or Lydia Ko.
Delivered over 8, 1 hour sessions by PGA Teaching Professionals Tony Mackrell and Peter Scanlan, the Yo- ung Masters programme is designed to encourage kids to take an active interest in golf and inspire a new gene- ration of stars.
Playsport Golf are running free taster sessi- ons for the programme on at 10am on Saturday 11th, Sunday 12th, Saturday 18th and Sunday 19th April and advanced booking will be essential for these.
The course starts on the weekend of the 25th April and runs throughout term ti- me with each 8-week block costing £60. The Post asked
Playsport Golf General Ma- nager Colin McEwan what makes it so special. “Sin- ce opening we have ensu- red that Playsport Golf is a family focused facility acti- vely encouraging children to participate in golf from coaching, practice to play on the course.”
This carries over to their membership packages whi- ch encourages full partici- pation from the younger ge- neration. “Our junior mem- bership carries no restricti- ons and offers every bene- fit a full adult member would receive.”
Membership of
Playsport doesn’t just give players access to their 56 bay practice range, it also opens up their 9 hole links
golf course where each ho- le is based on famous ones from the Open Champion- ship, meaning that budding stars can pit their wits against the finest in the ga- me right on their own door- step.
Even the practice range features a central island mo- delled on the infamous 17th green at TPC Sawgrass. “We opted to construct it as the main focal point on the range as it is regar- ded as the most difficult par 3 on the PGA Tour,” Colin told us. “This feature gives everyone the chance to test their skills and land the gre- en which is the same distan- ce from the tee and similar in size, shape and undulati- ons as the real thing.” A daunting challenge, but one that East Kilbride’s young masters will be taking on successfully in no time.
