Team Canada

Ultimate Canada is excited to announce the head coaches for the junior national teams competing in the 2016 World Junior Ultimate Championships.

The 2014 coach of the year is at it again. Ultimate Canada has selected Carla DiFilippo to be the head coach of the 2016 junior national women’s team. She has had success coaching at all levels. Most recently, she was the assistant coach for the silver medal winning Team Canada at the 2014 WJUC in Lecco, Italy.

As a player, DiFilippo competed at the highest level for almost 10 years. She was an integral part of the Capitals dynasty that ran from 2009-2012, capping it off with a bronze medal in Sakai, Japan with the national women’s team. Not just a star on the field, she comes with a wealth of coaching experience, including a decade of coaching elite- level volleyball. At the junior club Ultimate level, DiFilippo is fresh off a CUC gold with the newly formed TORO program. It’s not hard for DiFilippo to find motivation for her journey. She was on the coaching staff for the 2013 U23 bronze medal- winning women’s team and the 2014 U19 silver medal-winning women’s national team. DiFilippo is back and looking for that elusive gold!

Ultimate Canada is proud to introduce the coach of the 2016 junior national open team: Jon Hayduk. You won’t be able to find a more influential person in the BC junior program right now. His commitment to junior development at the club, national and international level is awe striking. As a player, Hayduk boasts an impressive career, representing Vancouver and Canada over the course of a 15-year career. Hayduk was, most notably, a part of the gold medal-winning mixed national team on home turf at the 2008 WUGC.

Hayduk’s coaching experience is vast, including a combined four CUC gold medals in the junior mixed and junior open divisions and three BC high school gold medals since 2008. Hayduk has several years’ experience coaching team Canada. He has been on the coaching staff in three world championship events (2012 WJUC, 2013 WU23 & WJUC 2014). Recently, Hayduk led the 2014 junior national open team to a gold medal, breaking the United States’ decade-long streak. We would like to welcome back our gold-medal winning head coach for another cycle.
