Who needs a Challenge? It is always very gratifying to receive an

unexpected letter of thanks. Lawrie Orr, a Rotary Club member who was involved in the running of the “Rotary Young Chef of the Year” challenge received the following letter of thanks from the mother of the runner up in the District heat:-

“A very belated, but huge thank you for your support, and encouragement, to Anna through the Rotary Club Young Chef competition. As you maybe guessed, no one was more surprised than she was which made the whole experience quite a day! To receive the runners up prize and all the fame that goes with it has been a huge boost to her confi dence and of course a worthwhile addition to her CV.

So our heartfelt thanks goes to you, David Mackie, and The Rotary Club for the opportunities awards such as this one bring to young people. They’re surrounded by many pressures as they go through High School and what these awards off er is encouragement, focus, insight and self-esteem”.

Rotary is involved in many ways with youth projects, another of which is the 2015 Primary Schools Quiz. This is a competition which tests knowledge on a number of topics covering Environment, Literature, Current Aff airs, Maths, History, Sport, General Science, Geography, and Spelling. Five teams of fi ve pupils from local Primary schools took part with Newton Primary winning narrowly from St Mary’s Episcopal, with the other teams from Dunblane, Bridge of Allan, and QVS also providing very strong opposition. This competition aims to provide senior primary school pupils with the experience of competing as part of a team, and the opportunity to meet with pupils from other schools. Newton Primary will now go on to compete in the District Final.

However Rotary Competitions are not just for the younger generation. We recently held our Annual Quiz Night in which 14 teams of 4 battled it out over 120 questions with the winning team providing 92 correct answers!!

Why not challenge yourself and come along to one of our meetings in the Westlands Hotel on a Thursday evening to enjoy all the companionship and fun.
