AFC Porth 2

87 Sports Nomads thrash Tigers Follows bags four in big win

Haverfordwest County 5 JORDAN FOLLOWS bagged

a first half hat-trick as he helped Haverfordwest County to an emphatic victory over AFC Porth. The Bluebirds were up 4-0 at half

time and could have had more than the five goals they scored had they taken some of their chances. Follows’ four goals moves him on

to 23 for the season and also helped his side to a third straight victory. With just ten minutes of the game

gone the Bluebirds were in front as Follows headed home a cross from the right hand side. Two minutes later they doubled

their lead when Luke Borelli volleyed the ball into the net from another cross.

Follows could have had more goals but he was guilty of missing a couple of chances when through on goal.

It wasn’t long before he grabbed

his second however as Nicky Palmer’s shot deflected off of his heel, wrong- footing the Porth keeper.

Follows completed his hat-trick shortly before half time when he slotted home after showing some neat footwork in the box.

The Bluebirds continued to

dominate at the beginning of the second half but a momentary lapse of concentration allowed Porth to pull a goal back. The away side responded and

restored their four goal advantage just moments later as Follows scored his fourth goal of the afternoon. Porth pulled a second goal back

in the closing stages but it was just a consolation for them as the Bluebirds came away with a 5-2 win.

The win sees the Bluebirds keep up the pressure on table toppers Cardiff Met and they will look for another win on Saturday as they take on Goytre at the Bridge Meadow, kick-off 2.30.

Haverfordwest County: Craig

Morris, Ricky Watts, Antonio Facciuto, Sam Rodon, Dale Griffiths, Steffan Davies, Kieran Howard, Nicky Palmer, Luke Borelli, Jordan Follows, Owen Thomas. Subs: Dan Evans, Chris O’Sullivan, Declan Carroll, Greg Walters.

On fire: Sean Hannon’s goal helped Neyland to a third straight win Neyland

Johnston

NEYLAND closed the gap on

second placed Merlins Bridge with a big win over Johnston on Saturday (Jan 24). The Nomads are now just two points behind the Wizards after their third straight win.

Both sides had chances early on in what was a keenly contested game. It was the home side that made the breakthrough with half an hour gone as Aaron McQuillan was given the freedom of the Johnston penalty area to head home.

Any hopes Johnston had of

mounting a comeback where quickly dampened in the first ten minutes of the second half. Firstly, just a minute into the second

half a cross into the box was turned on to the post by Michael Chandler but the ball rebounded into the net off an unfortunate Tigers defender. Chandler did

get on the score

sheet just three minutes later with an outstanding goal. With his back to goal he controlled the ball before turning and half volleying the ball into the top corner from 25 yards out. Then ten minutes into the second

half it was 4-0 when Wayne Parry drilled Aaron McQuillan’s cross back across goal and into the net. The Nomads added a fifth with

fifteen minutes to go as Sean Hannon headed home a corner from six yards. Scott Jones added a sixth for

Neyland in the closing stages as he broke into

the box before beating

a player and shooting low into the bottom corner. It was all a bit

too much for

Johnston’s Adam Hawkins as he was given a red card after the final whistle for abusing the referee.

Neyland are in great form and will

look forward to welcoming Pennar Robins next Saturday who are also on a good run. Johnston will look to get back to winning ways when they take on second-from bottom West Dragons.

Reid and Dimond sink Saints

Herbrandston St Clears

HERBRANDSTON won their

second game in a row as they beat St Clears by five goals to two at the weekend.

The win takes them above Tenby and into fifth place in the league. Herbie opened the scoring with

fifteen minutes gone as Scott Reid scored with an unstoppable shot from 20 yards out. They made it 2-0 soon after as

Hayden Dimond scored with a carbon copy of the first from the right hand side.

Reid then turned provider later in the half as he crossed for Daniel Munn to head home to make it 3-0 to the home side. Nick Squire pulled a goal back for

the Saints shortly before half time to give them hope of a comeback. However that comeback never

materialised and ten minutes in to the second half it was 4-1 when Dimond bagged his second of the game.

Steven Thomas added a second goal for the visitors who would not go down without a fight. Herbie had the last laugh as Scott Reid beat four players before smashing the ball home from the right hand side of the box.

The Saints will be looking to bounce back on Saturday but face a tough trip to second placed Merlins Bridge.

Herbrandston will look to continue

their recent good run of form as they take on Angle.

Top form: Jordan Follows has now scored 23 goals for the Bluebirds this season
