13 News Drink driving, again! £10m care fund announced

H AVERF O RDWEST MAGISTRATES disqualified a driver for 3 years, after she was convicted for her second drink driving offence. Tania Lewis, of Bryn Clegyrn, Castlemorris stood before the magistrates’ and pleaded guilty to driving whilst over the legal limit. Ellie Morgan, prosecuting said: “On the morning of November 10, 2014, Miss Lewis drove from her home towards Goodwick along the A487. She was then involved in a collision with the hedge, rolling her Ford Focus. No other vehicles were involved in the incident, and Miss Lewis told the police she had swerved to avoid a fox or dog. Miss Lewis gave a urine sample at

the police station, where the result gave a reading of 142 milligrams for 100 millilitres, where the legal limit is 107 milligrams.”

Defending Lewis was Jonathan

Webb who said: “Miss Lewis had returned from a holiday in Scotland the previous evening, and had had a few drinks at home. The following morning after thinking she had slept it off, she drove in an attempt to get the essentials from her local Tesco, when she swerved to avoid either a fox or a dog.” Lewis, 40, who was also convicted for drink driving in 2008 was fined £255 along with court costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £25 along with her 3 year ban.

‘I didn’t drive at police’ A MAN from Milford Haven

is facing a trial on March 18 for driving a vehicle dangerously. Ian Macdonald, 35, of Edward Street, appeared before Haverfordwest Magistrates on Tuesday (Jan 27) but pleaded not guilty to the offence. Prosecuting, Vaughan Pritchard

Jones said that the police officers saw Macdonald’s car parked up in Waterston. The court heard that one of the officers got out of the car and approached the vehicle. However, the defendant decided

at that point to reverse his car, he then put the car in first and reversed again

towards the police officer. His action resulted in the police officer having to jump out of the way to avoid being hit. Macdonald denies reversing

the vehicle at all on the night of the incident, stating that he drove forward as there was sufficient space. He argues that he was nowhere near the police. The defendant had told the police

officers that he had no idea it was a police car because it had no flashing lights.

Defending, Mark Layton, told the

bench there were no injuries and the incident was short. Macdonald was given unconditional bail.

Guest stayed two nights but didn’t pay AN AMMANFORD man,

who stayed two nights at the Saundersfoot Guest House without paying, was fined for the offence.

Park Avenue,

Paul Biella, aged 27, of pleaded

guilty to

the offence at Haverfordwest Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (Jan 28).

The court heard how Biella had

an argument with his wife who then threw him out of the house leaving him with no money and nowhere to go.

Prosecuting, Vaughan Pritchard-Jones told the court: “On January 24, 2014, this man went to the Guest House and stayed there knowing he had no means of paying. He has said he is sorry and that he will repay the full amount that he owes and I am told he has also brought money to court today to make immediate payment for compensation.

That amount is

£142. His offence does not put him in breach of a suspended sentence.” Defending, his solicitor

WELSH

GOVERNMENT’S Health and Social Services Minister Mark Drakeford has announced details of a major £10m investment in Wales’ primary care services which will see a wider range of healthcare professionals deliver care in or close to people’s homes, freeing up GPs’ time and expertise to care for people with more complex needs. The primary care fund will help

told the court: “He accepts full responsibility. He had an argument with his wife and he was left without money and he found himself in a desperate situation. He wasn’t in the right frame of mind but he is sorry for his actions. He is back on track with his relationship and he is looking at setting up a car sales business. This was a spur of the moment decision and I would ask that you give him a fine for the offence.”

The chairman of the bench

said: “We are concerned that this is the second offence of a similar nature that brings you before the court. You’ve got a suspended sentence hanging over your head and if you appear in court again the Magistrates will look at this more seriously. You need to get your life in order.”

Biella was fined £130 for the incident, ordered to pay a £20 victim surcharge, £85 in court costs. He was also ordered to pay £142 in compensation.

Welsh Labour Government’s primary care plan, which focuses on improving health and keeping people out of hospital.

Evans, the Labour Candidate for South

Pembrokeshire, said the new fund signaled a clear shift in the way people would be treated in the future. “Due to the enormous pressure on the Welsh NHS, there has to be a shift away from hospital-based care whilst also freeing up GPs’ time. GP surgeries across Pembrokeshire are struggling to keep up with the growing demand for appointments. They are doing a fantastic job, but if things carry on as

they are they will be overwhelmed. Patients should be encouraged to think about where else they can turn for their health

alongside GPs and close to people’s homes.” Ms Evans said the NHS was at a crossroads and the Welsh Government had the right plan for the future: “We have to develop a much more community-based NHS in the future and the Welsh Government is taking us in the right direction with this £10 million investment.”
