By Fred Burton I’VE ALWAYS thought that

angling has not been given the right publicity through the TV media. We

have recently had Robson

Green with his worldwide fishing adventures and Jeremy Wade with ‘river monsters’. Chris Tarrant has also been active with his mini-series on fishing with his mates, and now it seems BBC Two are going to produce a series on angling. The programme will comprise of six one-hour programmes, with filming starting in the spring. We need more visitors to go fishing in west Wales where we have some of the finest rivers fishing and beaches in the UK.

Ben Wilson sustainable fisheries

project manager for the Natural Resources Wales agency in Wales, said angling was worth £76 million to the Welsh economy 10 years ago, but that figure had nearly doubled since then. Mr Wilson said a one-year

marketing programme had resulted in anglers spending £27m in Wales, while hundreds of miles of rivers have been opened and riverside habitats improved since 2000. Sea anglers

are being spoiled

for choice as to where to fish! Most beaches are producing fish from dabs to codling and even bass, and the colder weather is bringing in fish closer to the shore. The Haven is fishing well down to Burton. Brian Carter, a visitor to Pembrokeshire, banked a fine cod of 7lb from angle east. Carmarthen Sea Anglers had an

excellent turnout for their trip to Cei bach for their latest match on Sunday (Jan 18). The beach has been fishing well for Codling in recent weeks with club members catching cod up to 6Ib. Despite bitterly cold weather the

Codling turned up again, and codling in the 1.5 to 2.5 Ib range were caught but also three surprise Bass. Over 20

sizeable Codling were caught in total. Andy Tasker caught 6 Codling and a Bass for the biggest bag on the day, Nigel Jones took the pool for the biggest fish though with a bass of 2Ib 14oz, Andy had second biggest fish with a Codling of 2Ib 5 oz, and Johnathon Phillips took the third biggest fish with a Codling of 2Ib 3 oz in a bag of 5 Codling. Also amongst the Codling was Mike Jordan with 5 and a good bass. There was an excellent turnout for

this match and club membership has increased lately. The club welcomes new members and can now be found on Facebook. Llys-Y-Fran Reservoir have now published their 2015 season prices, and can be seen here:

SWANSEA failed to stop the

rot last weekend as they crashed to a 3-1 FA Cup away defeat to Championship side Blackburn Rovers.

City took the lead on 21

minutes through a Gylfi Sigurdsson thunderbolt. This was despite the fact that they had Kyle Bartley sent off in the 7th minute for a foul on Rovers striker Josh King. The 23 year-old centre back was judged to be last man when he fouled King and thus the referee produced a straight red. This had Swansea on the back foot before the game had really begun. Garry Monk tried to compensate by bring on Federico Fernandez to plug the hole at centre half. The visitors seemed to cope well with being a man down and eventually took the lead through Sigurdsson’s 25-yard screamer.

However, the problems soon began as 2 minutes later Blackburn equalised

through Chris Taylor. A

THE NARBERTH AND WHITLAND ROTARY CLUB’S main Charity fund raising event The Welsh Dragonboat Championship is approaching again after a extremely successful weekend last year raising £15,000 for Welsh Charities.

The event will take place on

Whitsun weekend with the Dragonboat race taking place on Sunday, May 24, 2015.

Pembrokeshire prepares for a

fun-filled family day out at Llys-y- fran and the teams that entered last year are still buzzing after such a wonderful Corporate Team Building Event and exciting day spent on the waterside at Llys-y-fran. This year the event promises to be bigger and more exciting than ever with Free Camping, a Bicycle Hill Climb Competition on the Saturday, Children’s Discos and entertainers and numerous bands

playing .

The weekend promises to be action packed with something for all the family all children’s activities will be free and there will be free camping at the Llys-y-fran beauty spot. There will be a plethora of food and beverages as provided by the catering stalls on-site. The Rotary organisers are really promoting the family friendly nature of the day, in the hope that the people of Pembrokeshire get out to support these worthy beneficiaries, this year supporting four main Cancer Charities, Paul Sartori, Prostate cancer at Glangwilli Hospital, Llanelli Breast cancer Unit (which covers Breast cancer in West Wales), Tenovus and Teenager Cancer Trust. We are appealing to local Clubs and businesses to get involved in this great opportunity to involve a

Corporate

Team Building exercise for their staff and customers in both Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire and they are encouraged to enter their team in this fun weekend. It is an experience not to be missed. The team need to comprise of 17 members. To find out more details Welsh Dragonboat

Swans bad run of form continues

fine cross from Martin Olsson was headed

back across goal by the

impressive Tom Cairney. Taylor met it, controlled the ball and poked home past Fabianski. After this the Swans seemed quite

comfortable soaking up Blackburn’s pressure. With one win in the last six games the Premier League outfit were trying to make amends for their 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Chelsea the previous weekend. Following poor runs of league form the cup is often seen as the perfect arena to get the team back on track. Consider Liverpool – struggling badly in the Premier League earlier this season. But their fortunes turned following an FA Cup victory over Bournemouth and they are now 10 games without defeat.

This was the perfect opportunity

for the Welsh side to get their season back on track. But with half an hour remaining all this changed. Premier League target Rudy Gestede climbed

of the Blackburn bench and turned the tide for his team. Firing in from close range with 12 minutes left on the clock, the Frenchman put in an impressive display that will improve his prospects among his Premier League suitors. Craig Conway then completed as

miserable day for the Swans when his

20-yard effort was spilled by

Fabianski and trickled in under the Polish keeper’s body. As frustrations boiled over the red mist descended and Sigurdsson of all players picked up Swansea’s second red of the game late on. The Icelandic midfielder was dismissed for a nasty challenge on Taylor with mere minutes remaining. The

two red cards added to

Swansea’s disciplinary problems this season and compounded a wretched afternoon for Garry Monk’s side. City will now need to regroup head of Sunday’s visit to Southampton.
