Neyland St Clears

20 15

A STRONG all round performance from young Patrick Bellerby helped guide his side past a rejuvenated St Clears side, who walked away from the Athletic Ground with a losing bonus point for their efforts. Bellerby scored a try, kicked a conversion and slotted a penalty as he came looking for work in attack, and was strong in defence. Adam Collins scored a try for the home side, along with Jonathan Lloyd as they gained a victory. The Carmarthenshire side battled hard and were rewarded with tries from Ryan Thomas and Andy Deacon, one being converted by Ryan Thomas, who also added a penalty. Neyland sit in sixth place and travel the short distance to Llangwm who sit in eighth place on Saturday (Jan 31).

Llangwm Pembroke

14 14

IT ALL ended level at Pill Parks

after Pembroke took a 14 point lead only for Llangwm to battle back and show their improvement, scoring a late try to level matters.

In the second leg of the Palmer Cup, competed for annually between

these two sides, Pembroke came into the match with an advantage having won 48-10 earlier in the season. And it was the Scarlets who struck first as James Skeels and Billy Wood touched down in the first 40, with Phil Williams adding the extras to both. After the break, Llangwm used the Pill Parks slope to their advantage and pushed the Scarlets back before

stinging them with two tries, Carwyn Morgan touching down after a clever chip and Andrew Brock scoring a sensational solo try, who also happened to add the extras to both tries, giving his side a memorable draw, against a Pembroke side who would have fancied victory. Llangwm travel to Neyland whilst Pembroke travel to Milford Haven.

Quins fall off in second half

P.Dock Harlequins Aberaeron

5 21 THE SCORELINE doesn’t quite

reflect the battling performance from the homeside, as they match their Ceredigion rivals physically for much of the game, but began to

fall off late on as their fitness levels couldn’t quite compete. After a tight scoreless first half, the Quins try came from Paul Jonkers, as he made a typically strong run to crash over to the delight of his team mates and the watching crowd. However Aberaeron showed

typical Ceredigion guts, and replied with three tries. Gethin Hughes, Kieran Etheridge and Ollie Sawyer crossed the white wash for the visitors, as Sion Evans converted all three tries. The Quins sit in ninth place and host seventh placed St Clears this Saturday (Jan 31).

Kidwelly Whitland

27 19

WHITLAND were unable to

cause an upset when they travelled to first placed Kidwelly, even after live wire flanker Jack Mason scored two brilliant tries for the Borderers. Kidwelly completed the

double

over Whitland, as the visitors got no reward for their part in an entertaining game. A quick tap and go late in the game, when a penalty kick would have

given them a losing bonus point, could prove to be costly towards the end of the season. It was Whitland who got off to the

brighter start, as hooker Mac Jones crashed over for a unconverted try, before Kidwelly replied with two tries from Richard Davies and Christian Gullen, with both being converted by Kidwelly fly half Steffan Marshall. Mason then grabbed his first

try, which was converted by Johnny Thomas, but again Kidwelly replied with a penalty from Marshall. At the

break, the score was 17-12 to the home side.

their third try from Andrew Francis, again converted by Marshall. Mason then popped up for his second try, but the conversion went wide, leaving the Borderers with nothing to show from their 80 minutes. Whitland sit in eighth and host

third place Ammanford this Saturday (Jan 31).

Carmarthen Athletic 19 Tenby United

17 CARMARTHEN Athletic stole

victory from the jaws of defeat against Tenby, as a last grasp try from winger Rob Thomas drew the scores level, before Sion Curran added the extras to give his side the victory. In a tight first half, it was the visitors who led 7-0 after winger Jordan Aspinall showed a clean pair of heels to touch down, with Jonathan Rodgers adding the extras. Tenby could have added extra points, but some poor decision making and bad luck saw the score board stay at 7 points.

Athletic then fought back after the break, as Richard Davies scored a brace, with Curran adding the extras to one.

Rodgers gave the visitors the lead again with a penalty, before adding the extras to a Toby Smith try.

At 17-12 with only a few minutes

to go, Tenby looked set to take the double over Athletic, but all that changed when winger Thomas claimed his late try to draw the scores level, and in a nervy few seconds, Curran added the extras to give Carmarthen Athletic their first win of the season. Tenby lie in sixth place, and travel

to ninth placed Loughor on Saturday (Jan 31).

Otter miss out on double Merthyr Narberth

29 10

NARBERTH failed to make it a

double over Merthyr, as the Otters fell off in the second half, after leading at half time. Ianto Griffiths got his sides first with

points which

a well struck chipped away at penalty, Merthyr’s

early try by Louis Jones, which was unconverted.

The Otters then took the lead after

an excellent try from full back Johnny Morgan, who finished off a typical Otters counterattack, and Griffiths was on hand to add the extras with his

trusty left boot, which meant Narberth went in to the break 10-5 to the good. The Merthyr coach must have said some keen words of encouragement during the break, as the home side came out and blitzed the Otters, using a dominant pack to provide a platform. Jeff Fry capitalised on a Narberth

mistake to touch down, with Stephen Lang adding the extras, before back rower Tom Daley added their third try. Merthyr managed to get their

bonus point with a try from Richard East, and bagged a fifth try from Martin Wichnall. The Otters lie in sixth place and host fourth placed Pontypool on Saturday (Jan 31).
