Gig of the yearElbow @ Te Capital FM Arena Album of the yearElbow - Te Take Off and Landing Of Everything
I have been in love with Elbow since their debut album Asleep In Te Back, and whereas one can grow bored of a band as they make it big and start releasing boring music, I just love everything that Elbow release. I cannot find fault in any of their albums, I cherish each of them for what they are and their latest offering is no different as it is right up there. Tis is a band that has now become something of a national treasure, which I am really pleased about as it didn’t half take some time for the nation to wake up to them, didn’t it? Elbow still firmly have a passion for what they do and have somehow managed to keep their feet firmly on the ground.

Gig of the Year Damon Albarn @ Latitude Festival Album of the YearRun Te Jewels - Run Te Jewels II
It’s beefy. It’s raw. It’s El-P and Killer Mike & their buddies. It’s a cross-over album, with rock and hip hop blended in some kind of deliciously vicious soup. Te bass will clean your stomach out. It’s very angry but catchy as hell. Its lyrics are incredibly poetic yet also pure filth .It’s grown up hip hop that has something to say but is never preachy. It’s confident and competent. If you can stop yourself from moving like a total bad ass when you listen to this, you’re a better lady than I. For fans of Public Enemy and Rage Against Te Machine, this is something very special in the current insipid world of hip hop. I’ve loved a lot of albums this year, but this hit me the hardest. Highlight: Close Your Eyes (And Count To Fuck).

Gig of the year Basement @ Electric Ballroom, Camden Album of the year Sohn - Tremors
A breathtakingly great album; each track different in its own way and each inevitably unskipable. It’s not often you get albums like this, but Sohn’s ‘Tremors’ has fit the criteria of my best album of 2014. Soft yet powerful vocals harmonised over a repetitious and catchy drone of computerised sounds. If you’re a fan of James Blake, you will love this. If you were lucky enough to catch his performance this year at Latitude then this will seem a firm pat on the back. People know who he is. You are not alone! It’s incredibly difficult to place Sohn into a genre; at best, he would be described as the offspring of SBTRKT and Chet Faker (definitely a contender in many beauty pageants, nonetheless winning first prize). Tis album is a breath of fresh air, and you will not be disappointed.

Gig of the Year Te Cat Empire @ BARTS Club, Barcelona Album of the Year Milky Chance - Sadnecessary
An Italian friend of mine introduced me to this artist earlier this year; we were all having dinner at my place and he just kept putting Stolen Dance on repeat on YouTube. Normally this would do my head in, but I just fell in love with the track and later the album. It has such a great sense of wholeness and flow about it, which is a quality that can sometimes be quite rare; after hearing one great track that everyone loves, sometimes the full album can sound a little weak in comparison- not at all in this case! Te vocals and melodies are gorgeous and I think the lyrics are just so unique and interesting. My favourite track is Sweet Sun; it is such a sexy song and it gives me the shivers every time I hear the chorus.
