REWIND! LIGHTERS OUT

RUMBLE’S 20th ANNIVERSARY

A

ndy Bunn started Rumble, the very first drum ‘n’ bass night in Norwich at Te Waterfront with headliner DJ

Kenny Ken back in 1994. At the time the scene was almost non-existent. Since then they have gone from strength to strength, and most Norwich venues have hosted Rumble since then, including Fat Pauly’s, Te Waterfront, Liquid and Wonderland. It’s such an achievement that they’ve managed to maintain a strong and loyal following for 20 years, especially in the ever-changing arena of club nights and the clampdown on rave culture through the years. Hundreds of massive names have delivered top choons, including Roni Size, Micky Finn, LTJ Bukem, Chase n Status and Pendulum.

Teir 20th Anniversary night will take place back where it all started, at UEA, and will have over 20 DJ’s and MC’s rinsing out the crowds in two rooms. It’s going to be MASSIVE. Expect awesome sound, giant inflatables and unbelievable visuals.

FOR DJ HYPE! I spoke to dutty-riddims-king DJ Hype, who is headlining the anniversary show. He’s been on the scene for over 25 years!

You’ve been involved in the drum n bass scene for around 25 years now, which is amazing! How has it changed? Over the years, drum n bass has evolved into one of the most respected styles of dance music. It’s an underground movement that has spread its wings all over the world and also now has a big foothold in the mainstream pop music scene too. What equipment did you start off using to make music/DJ? My first ever set up was a four track mixing desk, a Roland drum machine and a Casio FZ1 sampler - all very basic stuff! What tracks are you most proud of making? I’m not sure really; I look back on all of my productions with the greatest love. I suppose one of my favourites is a track called Mash Up Te Place because of the raw vibes on it. What are you working on at the moment, and who are you working with? I’m working on a drum n bass mix compilation for Warner at the moment where I will be trying to fuse all the styles of drum n bass jungle from the underground and mainstream What can we expect from your set at the 20th Anniversary of Rumble? I’ll try and make the walls bleed!
