In Memoriam


1959 Masatoshi Moss Fujii (G), Union City, Calif., Jan. 8, 2013. Fujii served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean conflict as a first lieutenant radar observer- navigator. He went on to become a teacher, a school principal, and child psychologist. Fujii is survived by his sister, two daugh- ters, and grandson.


Ralph E. Silva, Laconia, N.H., Oct. 16, 2013. Silva was a coach of many different sports during his 49-year coaching career, but his passion was baseball. Silva is survived by his wife June and an extensive family of children and grandchildren.


Verne J. Slack, Woburn, Mass., Jan. 13, 2014. Slack achieved the rank of a sergeant serving as a medic in the Korean War and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star for bravery during his service. He eventually became a real estate salesman and opened his own agency. Slack is survived by his wife Shirley, two siblings, two children, and nine grandchil- dren.


William J. Sullivan (G’63), The Villages, Fla., Jan. 8, 2014. Sullivan spent his life as an educator and a coach and worked at Springfield College for almost 30 years. Initially, Sullivan taught statistics and research and even- tually retired as dean of the grad- uate school at Springfield College. Sullivan is survived by his wife Anne, three siblings, two children, and five grandchildren.


1960 James Burke, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Nov. 11, 2013. Burke began his professional career as a high school teacher in Massachusetts before becoming a professor at the University of Massachusetts and eventually a guidance counselor for the University of Manitoba. He is

survived by his wife Ruth, two daughters, and five grandchil- dren.


1961 John J. Rockett (G’64), Northampton, Mass., Dec. 6, 2013. Rockett served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict before eventually becoming the principal at Florence Grammar Elementary School in Northampton, a position that he held for 14 years. Rockett is survived by his wife Linda, three siblings, three children, and five grandchildren.


1965 Stephen E. Dubilo, Holyoke, Mass., Dec. 9, 2013. Dubilo taught physical education in the Holyoke school system and coached the football teams at Holyoke High School, South Hadley High School, and Dean Technical High School. He is survived by his sister.


Nancy (Whittemore) Granger (G, G ’70), Ridgefield, Conn., Sept. 23, 2013. Granger worked in college administration at the University of Maine, Springfield College, and at North Adams (Mass.) College where she remained for more than 20 years. She is survived by her sister.


1966 May V. Latinen, Longmeadow, Mass., Feb. 12, 2014. Latinen was a retired school counselor in the Springfield, Mass., school system.


1968 Robert E. Burford, Nov. 4, 2013. Burford served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked as a teacher, guidance counselor, and coach at Wethersfield High School and Silas Deane Junior High School for 33 years. He also worked for a time with the


Connecticut Historical Society. Burford is survived by his children and grandchildren.


Marcel H. Meunier, Northampton, Mass., Dec. 21, 2013. Meunier served with the U.S. Navy and was a risk manager for Baystate Medical Center. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth, four children, three sisters, and many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.


1970 Patrick J. Brennan, Easton, Mass., Feb. 13, 2014. Brennan was employed for more than 30 years as a guidance counselor at Brockton (Mass.) High School and coached the girls’ basketball team to a championship in 2001. He also coached the girls’ cross country team and was an assis- tant coach of the track team at Brockton High. Brennan is survived by his wife Paula, a sister, six children, and three grandchildren.


Paul Mario Rovelli (G), Deer Park, N.Y., Nov. 25, 2013. Rovelli was a psychologist and touched the lives of his many patients with heart-felt listening, empa- thy, and patience. He is survived by his two children.


1972 Triangle apologies to Joe Fischer ’72, DPE’92, who was mistakenly listed in the In Memoriam section of Triangle, vol. 85, no. 1, in place of his father, Joseph C. Fischer Jr. ’40.


1974 Nicholas W. Moreth Jr., Teaneck, N.J., Jan. 25, 2014. Moreth was a dedicated federal employee of the Veteran’s Administration for many years. He is survived by his sister.


1975 Linda (Browne) Rodgers (NG), Indianapolis, Ind., Dec. 16, 2013. Rodgers was an accomplished swimmer, bright medical tech- nologist, and live music enthusi- ast. She is survived by her husband Scott and her two chil- dren.


1982 Bruce Johnson (G), Agawam, Mass., Feb. 6, 2014. Johnson held various jobs during the course of his professional career including director of crisis services for Mount Tom Center for Mental Health and Recovery, executive director of Valley Human Services, owner of Teddy Bear Carpet Care, and voice, guitar, and piano teacher at the Community Music School of Springfield. He is survived by his two children and five siblings.


1989 Phyllis S. Cohen, Milford, Conn., Dec. 3, 2013. Cohen was a teacher for many years in Bridgeport, Conn. She is survived by her three daughters.


1992 Jeffrey E. Bright, Concord, N.H., Feb. 9, 2014. Bright was a man of many talents, working as a social worker, silversmith, statistician, ship steward, carpenter, coun- selor, lumberjack, aerobics instructor, phlebotomist, painter, hospice nurse, video store clerk, and poet over the course of his lifetime. Bright was a born trav- eler and adventurer and will be remembered by many friends worldwide for the twinkle in his eye, and his wide and ready smile.


MaryAnn Mazza (G), East Longmeadow, Mass., Nov. 28, 2013. Mazza was employed for 40 years in the Springfield Public School Systems as a teacher and a meditation counselor. She is
