CLASS NOTES AND NEWS
1948 Gabriel Vitalone (G) and his wife Evelyn competed at the National Senior Olympics in Cleveland, Ohio. Gabriel won a bronze medal in the 10-meter dash and two silver medals in the 200- and 400-meter for the 90-94 age division.
1952 Frank Wolcott (G’60) lives in Venice, Fla., at Bay Indies, a retirement community on the coast. He recently was elected president of the Bay Indies Men’s Golf Association. For many years, Wolcott was the commissioner of the Greater Venice Sun Coast Tennis League. Wolcott’s wife, Sandy, is the president of the Bay Indies Women’s Golf Association. The couple resides in Kennebunkport, Maine, during the summer.
1954 Charles (Chick) Hungerford was awarded the 2014 R. Tait McKenzie Award from SHAPE
America (Society of Health and Physical Educators, formerly the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance).
1955 Carlton Erickson retired after 54 years as a funeral director and 17 years as a volunteer for Masonicare: Senior Services, for which he also served as the chair of the board of directors.
Alvin Muller wrote in to share that his son, Richard Muller ’85, has a daughter, Lauren, attend- ing Springfield College. The tradi- tion runs deep, as Roy Colsey ’68 also is Alvin’s cousin.
Ron Park was inducted into the Southwestern Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame in March 2014. After a period of retire- ment, Park became an assistant wrestling coach at Hempfield High School in Landisville, Pa. Park has been there for eight years, culminating in a lifetime total of 43 years of coaching wrestling.
1956 Thomas G. Kelley wrote in to share that he had coached at Illing Junior High School in Manchester, Conn., for 35 years.

He coached multiple sports during his time there and served as athletic director. He was a high school and college basket- ball official for 31 years. He shared that he retired in 1990, and the Illing school gym was named after him for his long service.
Robert White is part of the inau- gural class for the Maine Principals’ Association Hall of Excellence.
1957 David P. Beaver (G ’58) has been awarded the Julian U. Stein Lifetime Achievement award by the American Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation, and Dance, now called SHAPE America (Society of Health and Physical Educators).
Melvin (Red) Murray was inducted into the New England Basketball Hall of Fame in October 2009. In November 2011, he was inducted into the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Both inductions were a result of his many years of basketball officiating.
John H. Welch (DPE’74) was named the male Golden Athlete of the Year for New Mexico Senior Olympics in 2001 and the New Mexico State University
Aquatic Center now has an annual “Dr. Jack Welch” award that goes to the student employee of the year.
1960 Wilma Kristeller was a elected to a three-year term to the board of directors of Indian Lake Estates in Florida.
1961 Stephen C. Goveia (G’72) is now retired, but has been working a summer job with the Boy Scouts at Camp Squanto in Plymouth, Mass., for 27 years now.
Thomas Jessup and his wife Judy are enjoying life, living in Vermont, and continuing to try to make the world a better place.
1962 David Bourdon took a River Longboat Cruise from Amsterdam, Netherlands, to Basil, Switzerland, with his wife Mary. The couple reported that they had the chance to visit many beautiful European spots along the way.
Ron Coleman recently was inducted into the Union College (Schenectady, N.Y.) Athletic Hall of Fame with the college’s unde- feated 1967-68 wrestling team. Coleman was the team’s coach.
