Membership is Different Is there a difference between being a customer of a business and being a member of a club?
For the Kelowna Yacht Club, it boils down to our members feeling a real sense of pride and ownership in their club. From our restaurant and lounge to our sailing school, our classroom to our marina, it’s feeling good about meeting friends and making new ones, sharing experiences and learning new things.. It’s walking in and greeting people who know you as a person instead of just another customer – all in one place that feels almost as comfortable as home.
We are completely focused on meeting our members’ needs rather than members meeting the club’s needs. As an example, recognizing that some people don’t own or want a boat, we’ve introduced Social Memberships which provide access to our clubhouse facility, activities and events. This new category is incredibly affordable with current annual dues of just $255.00 + GST (all of our dues increases are limited to the annual inflation rate). We also recognized that our members with businesses would be interested in using our new club for meetings, training sessions and entertain- ing clients so we added a Corporate Membership with its own unique features to meet their needs.
Our club shares reciprocal privileges with other clubs, so our members can expect to be welcomed at hundreds of other yacht clubs around the world simply by showing their KYC membership card.
With our new clubhouse, our members can enjoy all of our spaces and activities, participating in those activities that interest them, or start new ones that others want to join, and there’s much more to enjoy than just boating! As an ex- ample, in the past month, our members have welcomed the fall with our own Oktoberfest evening with a themed meal, costumes, music and dancing. Our Bike and Brekkie group hosted a bicycle ride through some great Kelowna streets before sitting down to a breakfast with new friends sharing the same interests. The KYC Book Club members discussed the latest book by Ava Miles while curled up on couches by one of the fireplaces and enjoying their food and drinks.
