We provide access to people who ordinarily don’t have the opportunity to enjoy the lake. Each year, our members volunteer their boats, fuel and time to give about 30 sight-impaired people the opportunity to fish and spend time on the water, not to mention great prizes, trophies at a celebratory banquet, all free of charge. The Boat for Hope event, held in partnership with the Okanagan Boys and Girls Club and Variety, the Children’s Charity, gives almost 200 children with physical and developmental challenges - and their families - a delightful day of pirates and booty on the water and the land.

Our moorage basin, with 1006 slips, is the largest marina in Canada. As well as members’ vessels, we provide free access and moorage for the fire, rescue and patrol boats of the City of Kelowna’s Fire Department, RCMP and Central Okanagan Search and Rescue. The Disabled Sailing Association maintains a small fleet of specially equipped craft, and KYC donates moorage and dock space as well as hosting an annual regatta to raise funds for this worthy organization. Our moorage basin is home to the hugely popular Annual Boat and Leisure Show, a free event which is open to the general public.

Member commitment, involvement and a lot of enthusiasm is required to keep a club this active for seven decades, and the new clubhouse is testament to the progressive thinking and able leadership of our members. Not many clubs can continue to grow, retain active membership and also plan, save for and build a $10 million clubhouse.

We are ordinary people who love boating, but we also love our Okanagan and work hard to support the other residents and visitors to the communities where we live. Membership is open to everyone and all of our costs are kept to a family-friendly minimum.

The present successful position of the Kelowna Yacht Club is an outstanding testimony to the many, many thousands of volunteer hours contributed both in work and interest by many members over seven decades and without any costs to Okanagan taxpayers. We are actively pursuing our vision “To be a premiere Canadian yacht club that builds on its rich history and meets the needs of its members.”
