of the building features design and structural elements that reflect the masts, spars and hulls of the vessels in our marina.
The main entrances to our building are located on Water Street and also on the lakeside and open into a large atrium dominated by a spiral staircase. The walls at either end of the atrium are glass, allowing passersby to see through the atrium to the lake or streetscape. The building is unique in that we own the exact footprint of the building only, so it is completely surrounded by Stuart Park, like a boat floating in the lake.
The members’ areas of the clubhouse include the expected administration offices, but also a classroom which is used by our Sailing and Watersport instruc- tors during the summer and by the Canadian Power and Sail Squadron during the winter. It is can also be rented by other organizations for training or meeting space. The other rentable space on the first floor is our Boardroom which has a fabulous view of the lake and promenade and lots of natural light.
Our old clubhouse had a single private shower in each of the women’s and men’s washrooms, which we’ve included in our new building. Reflecting the chang- ing needs and younger demographics of our members, we have also added two family showers in our new clubhouse. These are areas where members who may be holidaying on their boats can come in, shower and clean up in private.
The second floor features our members’ lounge and restaurant which occupies half of the whole floor. Some unique features include the glass top of the bar, which mimics the ripples of the water in our marina. The whole southern and western window walls open completely to the view and the fresh air allow
