Throughout its seven decades, the club’s members have always had a strong connection to Kelowna and the central Okanagan community. While boating and enjoyment of Okanagan Lake remain the primary focus, our members and club have contributed untold thousands of hours to helping non-members in a huge variety of programs and activities related to enjoying our sport.
Our Education programs have taught thousands of Okanagan children about water safety and sailing skills while our members have volunteered their boats and time to teach hundreds of adults how to sail. Our sailing school offers North America’s only French immersion learn-to-sail program and KYC freely provides the training facilities for the many recognized professional public boating courses offered by the Kelowna Canadian Power and Sail Squadron. Our club has hosted international sailing regattas, high-profile speakers and is home to the world’s largest fleet of Santana 525 sailboats.
For years the KYC has installed, inspected and maintained free public mooring buoys between the W.R. Bennett bridge and Caesar‘s Landing. We now have 37 buoys carefully situated for safe anchorage in a storm; or a pleasurable day on the lake.
