Good Food For children
Bobbing Apple The Bobbing Apple, run by Brewers Fayre, offers excellent value and an all-you-can-eat buffet. The free indoor Playzone and outdoor play area are
extremely popular with children, who are kept amused for hours, allowing the adults to have a break. The beer garden is lit up, allowing you to enjoy the outdoors
even after the sun has gone down. Bobbing Apple, Sheppey Way, near Sittingbourne
For riverside walks
The Lion The Lion in Farningham is a country pub and restaurant oozing rural charm and rustic character. The picturesque surroundings provide the perfect backdrop
to the hearty, seasonal pub food on the menu, and the carefully nurtured cask ales and fine wines gracing the bar. The pretty beer garden is next to the river, and you can make
a day of it by incorporating pleasant riverside walks along the banks of the River Darent, and Farningham Woods Nature Reserve is well worth a visit. The Lion, High Street, Farningham, near Dartford.
For a village green
The Wheelwright Arms Matfield has Kent’s largest village green, around which are several tile hung Kentish cottages and an impressive Georgian mansion. The white weatherboarded pub, The Wheelwrights Arms, lies next to the green. It was built in 1602 and was originally a
farm building. It was converted into an ale house in about 1750. The pub is now owned by Shepherd Neame but has been
privately run by Rob and Gem Marshall since May 2011. Visitors will find a traditional pub with a warm atmosphere, well-kept ales, good wine, and interesting food. The Wheelwrights Arms, The Green, Matfield.
The Cricketers Inn The pub is aptly named, as Meopham is considered the birthplace of Kent cricket, back in 1776. This spick-and-span whitewashed pub overlooks the
picture-book village green where the cricket club still plays. Bag a bench on
summer Sundays to watch the action with a pint of Harvey's Best and a round of tuna with horseradish mayonnaise sandwiches, or a steak and ale pie from the all- day menu, or tuck into the full Monty – sirloin of beef with roast duck fat potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. The heated terrace
overlooks an early 19th-century smock mill. The Cricketers Inn, Wrotham Road, Meopham, near Gravesend.
