August 22 Family pond dipping, Tyland Barn, Sandling Two fun sessions of pond dipping. Catch your creatures and then magnify them to discover how amazing they are. Suitable for children aged seven and over. Booking is essential as places are limited. Cost is £3 per child.
August 23 & 24 Cider Festival Brogdale Farm, Faversham The Cider Barn is opening its doors, bringing you a great selection of local and artisan ciders. Enjoy live music, local food and entertainment throughout the weekend. The wild food tent will teach you how to forage for food on
your doorstep and live off the land. Tractor trailer and walking tours of the orchards will be running all weekend and the craft and produce village offers some unique gift ideas. Take a miniature train ride to see the farm and children can get crafty and have their face painted in the little festival goers’ tent.
August 25 Guide dogs companion dog show, Willesborough Windmill, Ashford The Ashford Branch of Guide Dogs for the Blind will hold its annual companion dog show on Bank Holiday Monday. There are both pedigree and novelty classes, costing £2 per class. Entry and car parking is free. Booking in begins at 10am; judging from 11 a.m. The mill is open for tours and the cafe for refreshments.
SEPTEMBER
September 3 - 7 Dog days and family dog show Riverhill Gardens, Sevenoaks Well-behaved dogs on leads permitted in the gardens and woodland on these days. There is also a special dog menu in the café. On the 7th there will be a last day of the season barbecue from 12.30pm, dog show from 2pm with classes including ‘fastest over bales’ and ‘waggiest tail’.
September 5 - 7 Weald of Kent Craft Show, Penshurst Place Find unusual handmade crafts for the home and garden not usually found on the high street, with more than 200 artists from all over the UK. Combined ticket to the craft show and Penshurst Place is available in advance.
September 12 - 14 Food festival, Leeds Castle See, smell and taste goods from local food and drink producers, retailers, chefs and cookery schools. With demonstrations daily, children’s activities and entertainment as well as a wide choice of hot and cold food available, there is something to suit everyone’s taste. A valid entrance ticket to Leeds Castle is required for this event.
September 13 Autumn Propagation Godinton House, Ashford A practical session learning the secrets of how to fill your garden with free plants. Take home a selection of plants from Godinton’s borders.
