09 August Sonic Youths Norwich Arts Centre
Head over to Norwich Arts Centre café bar during the afternoon of Saturday 9 August for a glimpse of our fine city’s future music stars when the legendary venue hosts Sonic Youths: an exciting showcase of hot noise exclusively made by grrrls and boys aged 14-19. With such an extraordinary amount of young talent in the region, NAC is keen to help share all that promise in a relaxed daytime environment, so is showcasing four acts between 1pm and 4pm. Hurrah!
Sonic Youths’ cut-off for demo submissions coincided with our print deadline but you can find out who’s playing by checking NAC’s website
norwichartscentre.co.uk or keeping tabs on twitter, @1419SonicYouths.
16 August Rumfest Rumsey Wells
Yo-ho-ho, me hearties! What could be better than some rum in the sun? If you’re a fan of this most rebellious and delicious spirit, head down to the Rumsey Wells’ inaugural Rumfest, taking place on the evening of Saturday 16th August in their lovely garden and pub. Tey’ve even got a special new rum in just for the occasion all the way from the USA, Ron de Jeremy. If you’re not sure who Ron Jeremy is, I’m not gonna tell you; the Internet will show you, but I wouldn’t advise you to do that at work. Like its namesake, Ron de Jeremy Spiced Rum has been artfully blended with spices, carries a well-rounded and complex aroma and has an extremely long and smooth finish. Tis beautifully crafted rum will be available on the night, along with 20 other rums. Try ‘em all! Ten nosh down on one of the Rumsey’s super-tasty pies! Specially created rum based cocktails will also be served, all in teapots and teacups. Tis is civilized drinking at its very best. To entertain you further, DJ Jazzlord will be spinning his funky tunes, ranging from Afrobeat to Jamaican Ska. Entry is free.

Future Radio, Norwich Sound & Vision, Outline Magazine and Open are joining together once again this year to find Norwich’s Next Big Ting. Make sure you make friends with us on Facebook and Twitter as well to be kept up to date; you can also find out more at

Open are generously hosting the live performances; semi finals will take place at the end of September (20th & 27th) and the grand finale will be on Friday 10th October as part of Norwich Sound & Vision. All we ask is that you’re from Norfolk or Suffolk, and have 2-3 tracks ready to upload as well as a short biography and good quality photo of your band.

Get into Summer Norfolk County Council
Are you expecting to arrive at the beach in your swimmers and instantly regret munching down on so many burgers and fries and sausages and coleslaw and cake and beer and cake and beer and cake? Well, Norfolk, let’s make this the summer when we actually feel GOOD about wearing those short shorts and vests. Let’s get active, and be healthy! If you’re not sure how to start getting fit, Norfolk County Council Public Health is running a ‘Get Into Summer’ campaign to encourage folk to get more physical and to eat well. Tey’ve co-produced a ‘Get Into Summer’ magazine with Active Norfolk and Archant, which provides inspiration on how to get your family moving this summer and ideas for healthy eating, without spending tons of dough. Tere’s also the chance to win bikes for your family, plus the opportunity for one young Canaries fan to win the dream-come-true experience of being a match day mascot at Carrow Road. Copies of the magazine are available through libraries and children’s centres, as well as online at
norfolk.gov.uk/getinto. Lemme hear your body talk!
