VOEWOOD FESTIVAL 15-17 AUGUST 2014 NEAR HOLT

Want to soak up some culture in the beautiful Norfolk countryside? Voewood, set on the North Norfolk Coast is a three-day festival where tattoos and tweed are equally at home. Set in civilised surroundings, with tea on the lawns of the listed country house and luxury camping available as well as fun stuff for kids, this is the perfect festival for the culture vulture who likes their home comforts. Smaller in size and gentler than other festivals, the line up is impressive, encompassing writers, music and people speaking who know what they’re on about. Speakers include Mick Wall, founding father of Kerrang!, Katie Puckrick and multi-award winning actor, John Hurt. Te music has been curated by Norwich’s own David Donley, and you catch a number of legendary acts there, such as gloom-pop multi-instrumentalist She Makes War, Midge Ure, Peter Hook with his new band Los Pacaminos (including Paul Young from the 80’s!) and former Sex Pistol Glen Matlock. If you’re into books, you can enjoy readings from Philip Ardargh and DBC Pierre amongst many others. Lovely job!

Day or weekend tickets are available from www.voewoodfestival.com

14-17 AUGUST 2014 BRECON BEACONS GREEN MAN FESTIVAL

If your idea of a festival is getting away from civilisation and surrounding yourself with all that nature has to offer, Green Man is your best option. Not only are they an independently run festival but are one of the few festivals in the UK with a 24 hour license. Te line up is something pretty special…artists include Mercury Rev. Neutral Milk Hotel, Bill Callahan, Beirut, Kurt Vile and Slint, as well as local electronic musician Luke Abbott. Green Man is a very friendly festival and has much more to offer than just this brilliant list of only some of the 1500 artists attending. It’s set deep in the Welsh wilderness, and you can enjoy locally sourced ales and ciders, ooarr, as well as delicious local foods. Tere’s a comedy and spoken word tent, Babbling Tongues, and Fortune Falls, an art installation in the woods. Tere’s also an area concentrating on wellbeing, which includes open air hot tubs (sexy time!!!! But probably not), wood fired saunas, various workshops and therapies in the relaxation tent, and even a sacred space just for women. It really sounds like a lovely place. A lovely place where you can enjoy a hot tub and then go see Slint…IT DOESN’T GET MUCH BETTER THAN THAT!
