Harvest Moon Holidays, Tyninghame, East Lothian Reviewed by Madeleine Smith and Andrew Price from Edinburgh

The first thing you notice at Harvest Moon is the beautiful scenery, with a breath taking view of Bass Rock. Located on the beautiful east coast between Dunbar and North Berwick, it is less than an hour’s drive from Edinburgh but, once you’ve travelled for ten minutes off the main road on a dirt track, you really feel like you are getting away from it all. Only a short ten minute walk to the picturesque Tyninghame beach, this

venue offers stunning scenery and plenty of wildlife to spot. We saw a baby deer in the first hour. The tree house we stayed in was kitted out to the highest standard with a log burning stove, Belfast sink and cool box. We also had our own chicken coop behind the tree house – she only needed a bowl of water a day and supplied us with the freshest of eggs. Our outside cooking pot meant we could have made delicious hearty meals over the campfire, however we stuck to beef burgers on the BBQ, which really hit the spot. We gathered fire wood from the surrounding woods to fuel our campfire and the pleasant weather meant we could sit out under the stars for hours. The tree house is tastefully decorated and is remarkably warm and cosy at night time. The instant hot running water isn’t a luxury you usually associate with camping, but then this is glamping. On our second day we drove to the nearby towns where we enjoyed fish and

chips in sunny Dunbar after a walk along the rocks. We then journeyed along to North Berwick to eat ice cream on the beach – we almost forgot that we were in Scotland. This would be the perfect location for a family holiday, with the nearby

beach and an on-site area where the wee ones can feed the lambs. The atmosphere at Harvest Moon is incredibly relaxed, the staff were very friendly and welcoming and the on-site honesty shop means you will never run out of marshmallows to roast on your camp fire. For those, like me, who are not seasoned campers, this is the ideal way to

enjoy the outdoors with all the comforts of a luxury resort. Prices from £590 for six people for a four night break in a luxury tree house

from Anstruther We arrived at the Rambleshack with a few trepidations. Our home for the next two nights was to be a New Age pod and, although it looked beautifully finished, neither of us are natural campers. We needn’t have worried; the Rambleshack has all the comforts of home. A secluded little patio has a table and chairs and an outdoor shower if you’ve come back from nearby Coldingham beach with a coating of sand and salt. The breakfast basket proved to be the biggest treat. These novice campers will definitely be back, hats off to owners Richard and Katie, they’ve got this just right. Prices from £60 per night for two people sharing

Loch Ness Glamping, Drumnadochit Reviewed by Gary and Stefan Callcutt from

Edinburgh On arrival there was no sword fighting with tent poles. We just walked into our exclusive Armadilla. There was a fridge, TV, DVD player and WiFi. Our wet room was just the thing after a long drive and the under floor heating was just right. Next door was a brilliant BBQ house. The next day at the hotel, which is part of the site, we enjoyed a full Scottish breakfast. Also local is Loch Ness (no monster). On site there is a wide range of balls, bats, trampoline, slides and swings. There are only four Armadillas on site, so book early. The owners also run the Great Glen B&B if you fancy a change. Prices from £58 per night for two people sharing
