hammer, hill races and many more have been retained; and no Highland gathering would be complete without the skirl of the pipes and the colourful Highland dancers.
DRUMLEMBLE SCHOOL HOMECOMING 12-13 July Drumlemble Village School, Drumlemble, Campbeltown Celebrate 150 years of Drumlemble School. Visi- tors interested in the history of the school and Drumlemble village are invited to join former pupils, families, Drumlamble ex-pats and local people for a two-day celebration including an exhibition of artefacts and memorabilia, music, dancing, carnival parade and school memories.
ROSNEATH PENINSULA HIGHLAND GAMES 20 July Howie Park, Rosneath
www.rosneathgames.co.uk The 2014 gathering will take place at the Howie Park in Rosneath, which is situated on the shores of the Gareloch near Helensburgh in Argyll & Bute, approximately 30 miles further up the River Clyde to north of Glasgow. 2014 is set to be a very exciting year for Scotland as it will be welcoming visitors from around the world to the Commonwealth Games. If you cannot manage to get tickets for the Commonwealth Games why not enjoy the Rosneath Gathering and all the fun of a very traditional Highland games. The games will also offer visitors the chance to see competitors from around the world compet- ing not just in the traditional heavy events of the Highland games but also in the solo piping and Highland dancing competitions.
INVERARAY HIGHLAND GAMES 22 July
www.inveraray-games.co.uk The games celebrate the area’s rich culture and heritage with field and track events, piping and Highland dancing competitions and ‘heavy events’ including the world championships for tossing the caber. You will also find a good selection of local Scottish food and drink stands as well many trade and charity stalls. Inveraray and district is where you will find the very best of Scotland. It is the traditional county town of Argyll and ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, who founded the town in 1745, along- side his new dwelling, Inveraray Castle. There
is lots to do and see in Inveraray, the gateway to the Highlands and Islands. It offers access to national parks, mountains, glorious gardens and beautiful islands.
MULL HIGHLAND GAMES 24 July Erray Park, Mull The Mull Highland Games has a picture post- card backdrop that adds scenic beauty to the drama enacted on the games field. A traditional Highland games featuring Highland dancing, tossing the caber and hammer throwing as well as piping and track events.
MULL OF GALLOWAY FESTIVAL WEEKEND 8-10 August
www.mull-of-galloway.co.uk/ the-mull-of-galloway-festival Local crafters from the Kirkmaiden area and further afield will be displaying and selling their crafts during the weekend, together with tales from former lighthouse keepers, guided walks, lots of activities for all the family to enjoy and great live music on Sunday 10th August. The Lighthouse Tower and Exhibition will be operating as usual but will be free of charge throughout the weekend. Mark the dates on your calendar for the Mull of Galloway Festi- val weekend.
