The Argyll and Bute area has an exciting summer of Highland games and other events planned
WORDS PETER RANSCOMBE S
cotland’s West Coast is famous for its beau- tiful scenery and warm welcome and a series of events this summer will put the
Argyll and Bute area on the map. Visitors will have the chance to search for
basking sharks, the second-largest fi sh in the world, or watch tall sailing ships sailing from Greenock up the River Clyde to Glasgow. Tourists will also be able to take in the sights
and the sounds of the Highland games, with
plenty of Highland dancing, bagpipes, tartan and events such as tossing the caber to keep the whole family entertained. For those looking for a blast from their past,
the World Stone Skimming Championships will be taking place on Easdale Island, near Oban, bringing back childhood memories for competi- tors and spectators alike.
