“Essential” NUGGETS Turkey: A Healthy Choice for Pets T

urkey is a good protein choice for people since it is low in calories and fat but is it good for your dog and cat as well? The answer is a big YES! Turkey is a lean meat that contains many vitamins and minerals essential for good health. Your dog or cat will get the maximum nutritional value from this protein source if fed in the raw state.

Benefi ts of Turkey: • Contains natural sources of minerals such as potassium, niacin, iron and selenium. • Loaded with taurine. Cats do not produce taurine naturally. They get this amino acid which is essential for a healthy heart, eyes, reproductive and nervous system, through raw meat that they eat or through added supplements. A raw natural diet produces the best result for meeting your cat’s daily intake of taurine.

Top 5 Sleep Solutions for Seasonal Allergies The Clean Bedroom Advises Spring Sleep Cleaning for Allergy Relief

t’s time for Spring Sleep Cleaning,” says Chris Chamberlin, co- founder of The Clean Bedroom (thecleanbedroom.com). “You spend one-third of your life in bed, and creating an allergy-free bedroom translates into sleep-fi lled nights and sniffl e-free days.” Celebrating its 10th anniversary later this year, The Clean Bedroom is the premier resource for allergy-free, eco-friendly mat- tresses, bedding, and accessories, with sleep showrooms across the country. “Early on, we were primarily a go-to for those seeking allergy relief,” says Chamberlin. “As a result, we’ve had almost a decade to investigate and perfect our recommendations for ways to alleviate allergy symptoms.”

Spring Sleep Cleaning: The Clean Bedroom’s Top 5 Sleep Solutions for Seasonal Allergies

1. Air Purifi er. Get a unit that uses HEPA fi ltration, which eliminates 99.97% of all particles three microns in size or larger, making a difference you’ll notice immediately and appreciate over time. “For truly miraculous results, invest in a hospital-grade unit, like IQAir or Austin Air,” says Chamberlin. 2. Pillows. Choose pillows made with untreated cotton, organic cotton (better), buckwheat hulls (great neck support), wool (best at moisture wicking), or natural rubber (97% natural latex). “Once you fi nd the right pillow, replace it every two years for continued cor- rect support,” says Chamberlin.

3. Bedding. Select sheets, blankets, and duvet covers made with untreated or organic cotton or wool. “According to the Mayo Clinic, it’s also important to wash bedding often in hot water at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit to kill dust mites,” says Chamberlin. 4. New Mattress or Topper. Choose a natural latex mattress (it’s anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, dust-mite proof, and relieves press points) or, if you’re chemically sensitive, choose a natural cotton or organic cotton mattress; if you can’t afford a new mattress, add a pure wool or natural rubber mattress topper. 5. Fresh Air. The EPA and the National Lung Association rec- ommend regularly opening windows to recycle the air; for those with seasonal allergies, a window guard stops pollen, dust, and dirt particles from entering your room. “And my favorite tip of all is to not make the bed every once in a while,” says Chamberlin. “An unmade bed allows your bedding to air out and breathe.”
