AllotmentsAquote for £560 for hedge cuing at the allotmentswas accepted. Caretaker Bill Piperwas to retire from caretaking of the village hall next year and a meeting to discuss the treasurer, maintenance issues and general running of the hallwas to be held. Churchyard Members of the parochial church councilwould like to aend a meeting to explain which areas they wanted cuing and to monitorwork when the contractors visit the churchyard. Clock The churchwest clock face had been damaged in the gales and needed cleaning. The parish councilwould consider financial help when the costwas known. School KCCwould not allow the installation of large rocks on the verge to prevent parking. Itwas agreed to invite the communitywarden to aend the next meeting when the school governorwould be there so that ideas to alleviate parking issues at the school could be discussed. Trees The clerk had wrien to Tregothnan Estates regarding damage caused by vehicles to the grass verges around the Pound Tree. Information The clerkwas thanked for preparing the village information sheet whichwould be ready for distribution at the annual parish meeting on May 10. SignboardsAresident had referred to the Queens Head signboards which had appeared on the A228 and The Street. The landladywas to produce some designs of a sign shewould like to put on the posts in the recreation area in place of the freestanding signs. Co-opted Michael Boundwas co-opted on to the parish council to fill the vacancy le by the resignation of Richard Devine.

Roadworks The parish councilwas aware of the disruption on local roads caused by roadworks at the Seven Mile lane/A20 London road junction. KCCwas helping by puing up more road signs. There had also been problems with the bus service for the village and the amended timetable was on the parishwebsite. Sign The vehicle-activated speed sign had been paid for by KCC Cllr Sarah Hohler and should be installed shortly. Landfill The parish councilwas concerned that there had been no recent liaison meetings about the landfill site andwas raising this with KCC planning and FCC Environment who manage the site. May Day The May Day event is being held on the village green on Saturday, May 3.


Ryarsh


Flooding The parish councilwas aware of residents’ concerns about flooding on Workhouse Lane. Brickworks Itwas believed that contracts would be exchanged for the sale of the brickworks shortly, and that building work would soon begin. The parish council would try to arrange a public meeting for residents to voice any concerns or ask questions about the building works. Summer fete This year’s fete would be taking place on Saturday, June 28, at the village hall and recreation ground in Birling Road. For more information, call David Storey on 01732 872113. Snodland Town


Fence Councillors discussed the planned fence that would be erected around the new Snodland FC ground. Itwas agreed that the fencing should be installed and the football club congratulated for raising money for the project. Red LionAplanning application regarding the Red Lion in the High Street was discussed. Councillors felt development on the sitewas long overdue but they were concerned that the applicationwas to build eight flats on the site rather than the previously planned six flats. Members objected as they believed thiswas an over intensified use of the site.


Troiscliffe


Report KCC Cllr Sarah Hohler reported that the Not Suitable for HGVs signs for PilgrimsWay were in the pipeline and that flooding in Green Lanewas being investigated. Stansted Primary Schoolwas in special measures and she understood that several pupils had transferred to Troiscliffe School whichwas now full. Quiz The village hall quiz evening had been successful. Highways The following itemswould be reported to Kent Highway Services: broken bollard in Church Lane, GiveWay sign at junction of Church Lane and Taylors Lane and overgrown greenery in Church Lane, making the pavement very narrow. Trees The borough tree officer advised on work that should be done on trees at the village hall car park. The clerkwould obtain a second quote for the work. Gates The gates from Troiscliffe School into the recreation ground needed repair and a decisionwould be made on whether the parish council could help with the finance when the exact costwas known. Damage Cllr Mike Merryfield Day agreed to contact the crime prevention officer for advice regarding deliberate damage in the play area. Speed Concernwas expressed about the speed of vehicles coming down Vigo Hill, especially on the bend. Various options were discussed to try to slow traffic down. Cedar Bungalow Neighbours were concerned that their housewould be in shadow from the proposed adjoining property. Although the planned new houses had been moved towards the road by 2.5m, this did not improve the situation greatly. Several residents felt strongly that three houses on the plot were too many. Gypsy site Concernswere rasied about a


proposed gypsy site between the M20 and M26 in Ford Lane. Chairman Cllr Ann Kempwould try to obtain more information. Itwas understood that KCC might own a strip of land between the road and the land in question.


Wateringbury


Cemetery Stepswere being taken to remove branches which had fallen from boundary trees in the gales. Drayhorse Meadow The tenant had taken up occupancy. County report KCC Cllr Mahew Balfour had aendedWateringbury Primary School following his grant for the school’s new sports kit andwas impressed with the school, its children and staff. Planning The parish council had no objection to the demolition of existing brick garage and its replacement with a timber double garage at The White Coage, 171 Tonbridge Road. Speedwatch Badweather adversely affected the programme. During the month, the team recorded 101 vehicles at or above 35mph. The police database showed that 19 of those vehicles had been observed speeding in the county, of which nine had offended for a second time, one for a third time, one for a fourth time and two for a fih time. Also two vehicleswere travelling at 45mph or above in a 30mph limit. One of thesewas clocked at 61mph on Red Hill.Warning leerswere sent by the police. Sports and Recreation Association The council accepted a quote with a £25 guarantee to fence the children’s play area. The area reseeded recently had been fenced off to allow the grass time to establish. The areas chosen for wild flowerswould be prepared in the near future. The main field and new car park would be rolled to help level the ground. Planswere progressingwell for the Fields in Trust village celebration fete on June 1.


West Peckham


Walk Itwas suggested that a circularwalk around the village and surrounding area be set up in memory of the late Simon Evans. Hewas an active member of CPRE Protect Kent and passionate about the countryside. The conceptwas agreed unanimously andwould be discussed further. Crime There had been three incidents since the last meeting: the the of a rug from a horse, an oil the and a break-in at a unit in Mahews Lane. KCC report Thankswere given to KCC Cllr Mahew Balfour for the recent funding of £750 for the taxi voucher scheme. He apologised for the large number of potholes and advised they were being repaired as quickly as possible. Village history/archiving Councillors agreed that DanielWebbwould be a great asset to the project. WelcomeAwelcome packwas to be delivered to the new residents at Cobtrees, Forge Lane. Bench Contributions for the Diamond Jubilee and memorial benchwere expected to meet £2,100 aer further donations, including an amount from the Friends of Dave Smart. The order could now be placed.
