letter of support, Mark was of- fered a breakdown of the rules and regulations – and the costs. Mark said: “This is just going to be a gathering of boats – no fireworks, no entertain- ment, just people sailing into Maidstone and mooring up for a big social event. “There will always be a few
idiots at any large event, but it’s not the boat owners. We have invested tens of thou- sands of pounds into our boats so we’re not likely to put them at risk. Also, most of us are family men and it’s a day out for the whole family, our kids and our grandchildren.” Visitors are expected from as
far away as Essex, with a flotilla from Canvey Island Yacht Club and another from Medway Bridge Marina at Cuxton. The Medway River Boaters’ Facebook page has more than 130 fans, with up- dates getting more than 3,600 hits in just one week. Mark said: “Word about this
year’s proposal has spread like wildfire. There is no reason why it shouldn’t be a success.”

Developer cuts homes from Kings Hill plan
ADEVELOPERhas cut thenumber of new homes planned for the next phase of building at Kings Hill by more than a third. The proposal also shows a signifi-
cant drop in the number of afford- able homes and a petrol station near Liberty Square has also been re- moved from the plan. However, a two-form entry primary school, ex- tension to the community hall, car parks, a skate park, open spaces and road improvements are included in the application to Tonbridge and Malling Council. Liberty Property Trust initially planned 975 homes for phase three of the development, bringing the
total number of properties at Kings Hill to 3,600. But after consultation, which started in 2012, the number of proposed dwellings has been re- duced to 635, with the percentage of affordable homes dropping from 40% to 17.5% – just 112 properties. More than 400 people attended a
public meeting in July last year in re- sponse to the plan, when concerns were raised about the lack of school places, traffic and parking. Andrew Blevins, managing direc-
tor of Liberty Property Trust, said: “We haveworked hard to revise our plans, taking into consideration the feedback received during the vari- ous public consultations. Kings Hill
will stay true to its roots as a mixed- use development and plenty of land will be released for the business community to be able to grow.” Kings Hill Parish Council said it
was pleased “that many aspects of the amended planning application have been changed as a direct result of the developer listening to the con- cerns of the local community”. There will be a public consultation
at the Kings Hill community centre on Friday, April 25. Doors will be open from 2-4pm
and 6.30-7.30pm for residents to look at the amended plans. The formal consultation meeting starts at 7.30pm.
