SIMON Maclellan, a 24 year-old aquaculture trainee from Drumnadro- chit, was presented with two of Lantra Scotland’s prestigious Aquaculture Learner of the Year Awards at a ceremony in March.

pleted his SVQ Level 2 in Aquaculture at Inverness College UHI, and is cur- rently working part-time with Marine Harvest Scotland to develop his skills and build up experi- ence as part of a Modern Apprenticeship scheme. Simon refl ected: ‘The

healthy salmon, and enabling me to develop all the practical and academic skills required for a success- ful career in the industry.’ Award


nominator Murray Stark, from Inverness College UHI, commented: ‘Simon Maclel- lan works on one of the Marine Har- vest’s salmon hatcheries, rear- ing salmon from egg to smolts for transfer to marine cages. He discov- ered the job at around the age of 24, having never considered the potential of aquaculture as a career.
