I am the farming manager of Fjardalax. We are producing sustainable salmon under very hard weather conditions in seacages in northern Iceland. We don´t use antifouling and therefore we need to secure the maximum waterflow through the cages. Furthermore we need the strongest nets available under these conditions. They may be more costly but they last longer and your fish will grow better in those nets...

we use nets from Dyneema® are that they are easy to handle, nets can be changed quickly, because they are extremely light and strong. One of the big issues here in Denmark is fouling, but with Dyneema® we see much less fouling on the nets, and we can therefore keep them in the water longer. We have about 80 nets made from Dyneema® in the water....

Lighter netting means less effort for people and less danger when handling the cages whether it should be by hand or by crane, lighter also means less stress on cages and moorings. Stronger netting means that fish farmers can sleep better. When divers inspect nylon netcages it would be a surprise if they didn’t find some mesh to repair, but when inspecting Dyneema® netcages it would be a surprise to find a single mesh to repair. That’s the real truth...
