OQHA/Teen Show with OQHBF & Summer Finale Quarter Horse Show – LOOKING FOR FEEDBACK
coming in for the date and location change of the OQHA/Teen show in 2013, so the new format was announced considerably late. We have heard that many were unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts. OQHA is working to get the show again for 2014, but we really want to know what our members think and if this format worked for you. We would also like to hear of any suggestions you may have to make this show even better for our exhibitors. Our end goal is to make a rewarding and afford- able opportunity for our exhibitors. We have been asked to think about changing locations, which the board is open too, however Ilder- ton provides a very affordable facility at this time, which allows us to offer cost savings in entries, hookups, stall fees etc. Unfortunately, the show pen at Ilderton was unusable this year, but we have been informed this will be fixed for next show season. Ontario Quarter Horse Breeders Recap
Finale Horse Show held on August 22- 23 at Ilderton, Ontario was a great suc- cess. The OQHBF paid out in excess of $30,000 in prize money, a trophy saddle awarded to the high point 3year old as well as buckles and reserve awards to all the futurity champions and reserve futu- rity champions. The weather certainly co-operated with blue skies and warm temperature throughout the weekend. The change in dates of the OQHA/Teen show to run prior to the OQHBF certainly was popu- lar with a sellout of stalls for both cir- cuits.
classes, 6 payback slot classes were also offered for those exhibitors who didn’t necessarily have futurity eligible horses, but still wanted to compete in their chance to win prize money. Slot classes offered included Open and Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle, Open and Non- Pro Western Pleasure and Open and Non-Pro Trail. These classes certainly drew a number of exhibitors competing in these payback classes with $500 added money. Winners of each class took home between $400 and $500, 2nd place winning between $300-$450, and 3rd place taking over $200. Winners of the English classes also received gor- geous English headstalls, western class- es received leather halters and leads

while the trail class winners received show coolers. These awards were kindly donated by the Longhouse Family. Spectators were also entertained when exhibitors were required to participate in some fun filled challenges following their class, such as a 3 legged race and competing in a backwards race around cones with their spurs on! Bridle Path Tack from Belleville generously donated a number of items which were handed out throughout the show as random exhibitor draws. The OAQHA and OQHYA co-
