NOVEMBER 2013 THE RIDER /15

7th Annual H.A.T.S. Ride & Walk-a-Thon

By Krista Ellens-Mills. Our 7th annual fall fundraising ride & walk-a-thon

was held on Saturday, October 5th. Despite the threat of rain all day, luckily we were able to ride outside - with so many horses participating, the arena would have been a tight fit. So many people came that even with the vis- iting horses we did not have enough to go around, so the horses really earned their pledges by doing the ride twice and then playing the bonus round games! Instructor Gina Cook did a great job organizing the

ride and the indoor games, which included an egg race, an obstacle course, and “cow” roping this year. It was a great day to renew old friendships and make new ones,

and for some of our participants to learn new skills. This event is a very important fundraiser for

H.A.T.S. as the funds raised help us get through the win- ter months, when ridership is down due to the extreme cold and bad weather. Our volunteers and participants did an amazing job collecting funds, and the grand total was just over $6,200.00! H.A.T.S. would like to take this opportunity to

thank all of you for your support, without which we could not continue to offer therapeutic riding and driving to adults and children with special needs. Every penny counts, and every minute of volunteer time is valued. For more information on how you can help, please visit our website at www.hatsniagara.org.
