rescription drugs are not the only substances we can ingest to maintain and improve our hearth health. Look to the world of traditional herbal medicine for alternatives.


Hawthorne berries help to improve cardiac efficiency. Take two capsules or more per day day, and one or more cups of Hawthorne tea.


CoQ10 helps cells use oxygen more efficiently so that the heart doesn’t have to work so hard. Its natural production is blocked by statin drugs. Take 100 mg a day for maintenance, and 200 mg or more if taking a statin or for other heart health issues. The ubiquinol form is easier for the body to use than the ubiquinone form.


Plant sterols are a cholesterol-like class of compounds found in many plants that do many good things for the body. In relation to the heart, studies show a positive effect on cholesterol levels.


Taurine is an amino acid that is essential for heart health. Take 500 to 2,000 mg daily.


Magnesium is a mineral that does many good things for body, including relaxing muscles to reduce blood pressure and making it easier for the heart to contract, so that it works less. Take 200 mg twice a day.


Nattokinase is an enzyme that has been shown to minimize plaque formation in the arteries. Take 2,000 to 6,000 FU (fibrin units) daily. [DAILY?].
