Through The Keyhole

Wherever she has been able to, Cath has retained not just the original features but even the fixtures and some of the quirky details which make the place unique.“I’ve left some of the original graffiti which was carved in some of the beams – here’s some – Fran 4 Gaz!”she points out. “The fireplace is original and although I have opened up the old kitchenette to make it part of the main room I have

salvaged the original metal sink units and the corner units. Outside there was a gas tank with a cage round it. I have had the tank moved and sunk it into the ground, so the cage is now at the back as a dog pen! Where I could salvage things I did, nothing was wasted.”

The renovation has been done sympathetically and Cath kept the original layout. On one side of a hallway are the ground floor bedrooms, converted from former bunk rooms, with a double room made out of what was previously a small office. The larger ground floor double room has an en-suite bathroom and doors leading out onto a small patio overlooking the grounds and woodland beyond.

At the end of the hallway doors lead outside and here Cath has provided a preparation area for barbeques and parties – with a large drinks fridge, an overflow freezer and a preparation unit salvaged from the original kitchen. “I think I might add in table football here to enhance the experience because the guys will love having one next to the drinks fridge!” she said.
