Live 24-Seven - Interview

spectacular in a completely different way, so things naturally work themselves out.

Your latest single is absolutely haunting – would you say it’s one of your favourites from this album? Yeah it absolutely is, I’m so pleased that the marketing team decided to go with it as a single. I think it’s such a personal song, with the lyrics mentioning being in a love that’s so frightening, you know, not knowing what to do with it, and that’s something I certainly have experience of and I’m sure many other people do too.

So drawing on your experience as a new bride for that one... Exactly, exactly, well James naturally inspires me, but at the same time I don’t shy away from singing heartbreak love songs as I know they mattered to me when I was single and heartbroken, so I don’t want to part company with something!

So what can we expect from the tour this time, as you’ve done everything from your four piece band and full orchestras to peeled back to just you and a guitar? I know, well at the moment it’s going to be me and my four-piece band. Some of them I’ve been playing with for most of the decade, it’s amazing this year as Tim Harries, who’s been my bass player and played on all of my albums, well we’ve actually made him MD, as I’ve always tried to run the rehearsals and done an average job quite frankly whereas with him as MD he’s just done a fabulous job, it’s in such fantastic shape so I can’t wait to do a proper tour with him as MD.

You’ve had ten very successful years, but does it get harder with each album and tour to keep it fresh and bring something new, but also retain existing fans? Yes it is, but also we’re now like a family, the ones that have been there the longest are just like family members, for example my long term piano player did get another job and yes I was gutted, but I still see him, in fact it was him that introduced me to my husband, so you just have to accept that people do move on sometimes and try new things and the good thing is that the new piano player, Mark, is absolutely

It’s coming up to Christmas so a few Christmassy related questions for you… Oh lovely! ... What would you most like to find to unwrap under your tree on Christmas Day? Ohh, I’m getting into writing letters; a personal, ink raised writing set – that would be lovely.

How will you be spending Christmas Day after working nearly right up to it? Well we’ll be going up to Sheffield and spending it with James’s family as mine, being Georgian, celebrate it on the 7th January so the 25th isn’t any sort of event for them. James also has nephews and they are absolutely adorable and it’s lovely watching them open all their presents.

That’s so convenient – no squabbles over whose family you spend it with? [Laughing] All of my mates are constantly worrying about that and I don’t envy them!

What will you be buying hubby? Ohh I don’t know as I haven’t even thought about it – note to self that I need to! I think he’ll appreciate some nice books, a really big bunch of books as I love reading, I think reading is an essential thing in life.
