The Lebert Fitness Product Line

The LEBERT EQUALIZER is the multi-pur- pose, total body strengthener that launched Lebert Fitness. Using the tan- dem U-shaped bars, partici- pants use their own body weight as resistance, can add more reps without having to stop and adjust equipment or change pins, and can do more than 75 different exercises.

instructor Ann Green endorses and uses the Lebert Stretch Straps to in- crease flexibility and mobility. The privately held Mississauga,

Ontario-based company employs a team of 11, and it is family owned and operated with everyone contributing their expertise and talent to the busi- ness. Even John and Carol's children Mike and Lyndsay work trade shows, while Marc and Melanie's nine-year- old son Toren is considering his future options. "It was a progressive build," says

John, who is 59. "It was done through no shortcuts, just hard work and by educating the marketplace about our products." The product line includes the origi-

What’s next Marc has envisioned the designs for

several innovative products for the fu- ture with one shortly moving off the drawing board and into production. "Our mandate is to develop a new product every 18 to 24 months," says John. "That's

part of our culture, so Marc's always thinking." "My ideas are all born out of my

need to find different ways to train,” says 45-year-old Marc. “But nothing works until you do."

– each new concept must pass scru- tiny first. A product must be simple to use, effective, multi-functional, lightweight, portable and versatile. Exercisers must be able to perform multiple exercises on each piece, the product can't be too niche and it must be appropriate for people of all ages and fitness levels. Each product must offer value to the consumer. "My mind races when it comes to

humans moving," says Marc, who de- signed the original Lebert Equilizer as an answer for a female client who wanted help with pulls up and upper body strength. The Buddy System was inspired by tandem workouts with a fellow athlete in university when they performed repeated pulley-style towel pulls to build arm and back strength. "It's all born out of my need to train

effectively," says Marc. "And it's all very intuitive." The next product in the develop-

ment pipeline will focus on the lower body, have eight to 10 functions and offer the choice of hundreds of exer- cises, from simple to more complex so trainers can offer exercises that mea- sure progress. "It's an exciting thing being a

Canadian company and going global," says Marc. "My energy level and en- thusiasm stay high every day because of what we're doing." FBC
