The Mother of Invention

Years of perseverance lead to success for the Lebert Fitness brand

M

arc Lebert was a man on a mission. A fitness instruc- tor and inventor, Marc had developed the prototype for

a resistance training product he thought might have traction. But he wasn't sure about the next steps. He ran some ideas past a group ex-

ercise instructor friend, Carol Ayton. She mentioned that her entrepreneurial husband John, who worked in sales for a large Fortune 500 company, had some expertise in taking new products to market. Would Marc like to meet him?

Getting started "So Marc showed up in my garage

with this tool that looked archaic, just some steel tubes welded together," re- calls John. "It was laughable, but then he started doing all these exercises and I was intrigued. I thought, is this guy for real?" "I must have looked like a crazy

squirrel hopped up on caffeine," says Marc. But Carol was enthusiastic, and

thought the odd, hurdle-like bars would make a strong impact in her classes. So the couple gave the nod to Marc.
