Also lost – thousands of dollars of
food when the club’s numerous food and beverage refrigeration units lost power.
Lessons learned One lesson the club learned was
that you can do little to stop Mother Nature. “The city was building berms, but the water just went around, through and over them,” says Clarke. “We learned that there’s nothing much you can do in that kind of situation.” However, the club was forward
thinking enough to have business in- terruption insurance that they hope will cover lost revenues pertaining to personal training and group exercise, amongst many other overall company losses. Luckily, because the accounting de-

Calgary GoodLife Clubs Open Locker Rooms
to Flood Victims “When we opened our change rooms and showers to the public, the response was very
positive from both our members and the community. At first it was just our own associates who had been affected by the flood who took advantage of the facilities. But once the word spread that everyone was welcome, members and others in the community began arriving to enjoy a hot shower and clean up for the day. The locker room facilities – with showers, shampoo, conditioner, blow dryers and towels – were available at no charge from June 24 to 30. A comment from one club was that it is easy to forget

how luxurious something as simple as a warm shower can be. Our members and associates were not deterred in any
way by the change rooms being open to non-members. In fact everyone thought it was very generous of us to open our doors this way. We are very thankful that there was no flood damage
to any of our facilities. Our Eau Claire Market location was temporarily closed but only be- cause the location was not accessible due to the flood waters. Aſter the flooding, a few of our Calgary clubs ran a sale to help raise funds for the
Canadian Red Cross in support of Alberta Flood Relief. By selling GoodLife hoodies, jackets, T-shirts, hats, etc., over $17,000 was raised in just a few days. It was upliſting to see every- one come together in a time of need. Calgary is a great city and community!”
