try, western –swing, and boogie woogie, but Mr. Kirchen’s playing has always remained authentic which I have to say is what I con- sider to be his strongest attribute. What I didn’t know back then was that Bill was heav- ily influenced by some mighty fine players, none of whom I had ever heard of before that fateful night in Roslyn, namely; Don Rich, Red Volker, Danny Gatton, and Roy Buchanan, to just name a few, however, today Mr. Kirchen is considered by many (Myself included), as the finest Telecaster player on the planet. A lofty declaration I know, but in the context of my musical travels over the past 4 decades, Mr. Kirchen has done nothing to dispel this notion, and in fact, he continues to get better as his last several releases con- firm. Bill Kirchen is very well deserving of his
reputation as “The Titan of the Telecaster” and for those who have not yet had the oppor- tunity to experience his authentic musical prowess, what the hell are you waiting for?

WRITER TO WRITER Hi Michael, We've never met before, but I've been doing
a good bit of research on Southern Rock, and I keep bumping into your name again and again. I'm finishing up a book for Hal
KNOW THE DIFFERENCE
Leonard Publishing's Backbeat Books imprint called Southbound: An Illustrated History of Southern Rock that will be out next summer. My good friend Randy Poe, who wrote the Duane Allman biography for the same pub- lisher a few years back, suggested me for the project. Anyway, I just wanted to reach out to you
because it seems like every time I read a really good article or interview with a Southern Rock luminary, your name is attached. As it turns out, even though we haven't met, you've been a huge mentor to me with your dedi- cated preservation (and celebration) of the genre's history! So, really, I just want to say "Thanks!" I'm actually about 2/3 of the way through
your Prisoner of Southern Rock book right now, so I feel like I know you already. Hope- fully we'll have the opportunity to meet in person one day. Thanks again for all you've done to promote this great music history.
All the best, Scott B. Bomar Los Angeles, CA
