Marshall Chapman Returns in a Blaze of Glory
by Michael Buffalo Smith Anyone who has read
my scribblings knows how much I love Marshall Chapman, the self-pro- claimed “Tall Girl” who was born and raised right here in Spartanburg, SC. Over the years I have pub- lished no less than three interviews with Marshall and eagerly await each new album release and book publication. In fact, her memoir, Goodbye, Little Rock and Roller is one of my all-time favorite music bios. If your knowledge of Marshall is on the limited side, I encourage you to Google her. (Just be care- ful, she may be ticklish.) You’ll find a long list of fine albums and an impressive list of asso- ciates and collaborators. Marshall’s songs have been recorded by
such diverse artists such as Conway Twitty, Joe Cocker, Jimmy Buffett, Emmylou Harris, Wynonna, Jessi Colter, John Hiatt, Dion, Olivia Newton-John, and Ronnie Milsap, and
her song "Betty’s Bein’ Bad" was a No. 1 hit for Sawyer Brown. The list continues to grow. With her latest release, Blaze of Glory,
Marshall may have created her greatest work yet. The reviews have been great, and she has been heard and seen everywhere from NPR Public Radio to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry. KUDZOO caught up with Marshall for an update on her life and career.
