great regional talent the Carolinas are so rich in, featured a showcase of four of the area’s favorite bands on July 27th. This local music fan is hoping it is the first in a series of such

folks were – the ones with their jaws dragging the floor were experiencing a little baptism by fire of the best kind. Opening the show was Halden Vang, fea-
turing Jake Haldenwang on guitar, Brock Whitfield on drums and Andrew Johnson on bass. This trio goes back a few years and the chemistry between them is spellbinding. With Jake fully energized, they performed all-origi- nal tunes from their upcoming CD with the exception of a brilliant cover of Fleetwood Mac’s “The Chain.” The audience was amazed by Jake. The young guitar slinger displays stage presence that is well beyond his years - he was born for the big stage. Brock Whitfield brings a combination of charisma and talent to the drums, and it was a pleasant surprise to see him returning from his new home in Austin, TX to be a part of this show. Andrew Johnson is a talented bass guitarist with a background in music from Brevard College.

shows. Dubbed “Charlotte Rocks,” three hours of the area’s most gifted bands was not nearly enough. The only way this show could have been improved upon would have been to double the sets of each band. Being familiar with two of the four bands performing, it was quite entertaining to watch the audience and see who was hearing these bands for the first time. It was easy to determine who those
