health condition, was taken in first to be ex- amined - front, side and back using the new MRI machine the hospital had purchased only days before. The tech who operated the machine and read the results noticed how the mass formed an image of a tiny being that ac- tually seemed to be attached to Johnnyʼs heart by a large blood vessel. It was also big enough to obstruct the action of the left lung inflating with air. He made his notes of recom- mendation to the staff to remove it immediately. Ronnie was next. The tech was sure he would find the same to be true in Ronnieʼs case. The mass was basically the same size and shape. As he was coming to the close of his MRI examination, he stopped in disbelief! On what appeared to be the face of the mass was a tiny eye staring back at him. He checked over and over not believing what he was seeing. Then the head
turned...and looked straight at him with both eyes open. As the chills ran up and down his spine, he gathered his wits and called in The doctor, to see this for himself.
CHAPTER 8 THE BATTLE The doctor could not believe what he was
seeing - a tiny human form attached to the heart of his patient that was a living being! If this was possible and real, he was looking at it. He was also faced with a whole new set of problems. He called the only person he knew that might be able to determine what to do in a situation like this. He knew that his old friend had been involved with genetic acceler- ation experiments before and could possibly
define this situation. They had gone to college together and remained friends throughout the years. He tried to remember the last time they had gotten together for dinner. It had been a while. When the receptionist an- swered, he said “Yes, could I speak with my old friend Professor Brooks please”. The hospital became a stir, as the staff would walk by and peek into Johnny and Ronnieʼs
room. No words were said by anyone as they swept by stealing a glance into the room. After Professor Brooks had examined the MRI results he was astounded. The boys were born around nine months after his formula had been stolen from his lab. Remembering when the police investigated the break-in they discovered that illegal drugs had been made on the premises and the entire lab was shut down causing him to lose his funding and his job. It had taken months to prove his inno- cence of any knowledge of what Professor Gant had been doing. He remembered that Gantʼs illegal vial of LSD he had made the night the break-in occurred had been taken as well. Could these boys be a result of a mixture of his and Gantʼs vials which were taken from cold storage? Gant had been convicted and
