April will see the launch of the CBRNe World Directory: the only directory providing information on all aspects of detection, identification and monitoring (DIM), protection, decontamination, reconnaissance and medical countermeasures. Edited by Gwyn Winfield and Steven Johnson, it has been designed by a stable of experts in their field – see right.


The CBRNe World Directory is available in two forms: an online version and a two-volume print version. The print version has over thirty roundups on all aspects of EOD, CBRN and narcotics detection,e.g., portal radiation monitors, bulk explosive detection, respirators, disruptors, mobile laboratories, UGVs, medical countermeasures and handheld assays. These will be collected in to chapters, each with an introductory chapter from one of our experts on the needs of that field, developments in the technology and the things to watch. Following these you will find product sheets providing more information on the items in the roundup.

Subject Matter Experts: Dan Kaszeta


Dan Kaszeta has worked in CBRN for twenty years. He served as an officer in the US Army Chemical Corps, followed by twelve years in civil service assignments at the White House Military Office and the US Secret Service. Dan moved to the UK in 2008, where he worked for Smiths Detection before starting his own CBRN and security consultancy company, Strongpoint Security, in 2011.


Mark Johnson


Mark Johnson, head of MJ Lawrence Consulting, is based in Munich, Germany, and independently facilitates communication between government and industry sectors, with a strong focus onthe international availability of medical countermeasures against CBR agents. Mark is one of the early pioneers in the European medical countermeasures market, especially in the area of policy and procurement development. His professional credibility was born almost twenty years ago when he began to represent leading global pharmaceutical companies.


Laura Cochrane


Laura Cochrane has a chemical and materials engineering background and has worked for several years on CBRNE product applications and solutions. Her broad track record in managing and directing global research programmes has resulted in the successful commercialization and product development of a range of CBRNE equipment, including personal protection, EOD mitigation and CBRN decontamination. Laura’s background and experience extends the breadth of CBRN research, production, programme management and operational fielding through various industry roles as a technical director.


Tim Sheldon Tim Sheldon is an independent consultant in the field of explosives, weapons and drugs detection, helping government and industry clients to understand technologies and requirements, as well as evaluate equipment fairly and realistically. Tim, a physicist, worked at the UK Home Office for twenty-five years, leading a group of scientists who carried out evaluation and research for the police, the Department for Transport and other governmental departments. Tim left the Home Office in 2008 to set up his consulting company, XDtec Technical Services.


Tim Rayner Dr. Rayner formed Bagtronics in order to help companies successfully enter the homeland security market. Prior to this Dr. Rayner worked for Rapiscan Systems in the UK and has held a number of senior research and development roles at Daylight Solutions, QRSciences, GE, InVision Technologies and Quantum Magnetics. He has a wealth of expertise in the security business, developing sensor technologies including x-ray, CT, QR and optical-based systems.


Mike Mason


Mike Mason is a senior consultant in the field of specialist CBRN defence, training and operations. He served for twenty years in the UK Military (RAF Regiment), led specialist CBRN teams, and has been deployed on CBRN-specific operations. He was responsible for training development within the UK Joint CBRN Regiment. He is SIBCRA, Fuchs and PBDS trained and was the lead training consultant for the Light Role Team. He continues to serve as a CT CBRN Specialist Reserve Officer.
